Fredrikstad vs Ranheim by 20Legend
After six undefeated games in a row it stopped in the last game against 2nd placed Sandefjord (2-1) for Fredrikstad last Tuesday. Fredrikstad has been in sensational form after Mons Ivar Mjelde got appointed as their new coach a couple of months back. They also continued impressing in this match and took the lead after 24 minutes. It was a tough opponent to meet, but Fredrikstad did the only right thing by not showing respect for the opponent’s big names. Sandefjord struggled through the first half as Fredrikstad worked hard to establish the initiative on their half. The lead stood at halftime, while the second half became much more open.
Both teams created chances despite the heavy rain that poured down on the pitch, but it was Sandefjord that equalize through Peter Kovacs after 58 minutes after a nice counter-attack. The decision fell after 72 minutes when Sandefjord had all the margins in the world on their side. A finish inside the penalty area got deflected by three of Fredrikstad’s players and into the net. Fredrikstad tried to respond by making a couple of offensive changes towards the end, but nothing more than a few small chances occurred. The club is still in 10th place with 31 points which is only three points ahead of the relegation zone. Defender Brice Wembangomo (7/0) is suspended due to yellow cards.
11th placed Ranheim has the same amount of points as Fredrikstad, but their current form cannot be described as the same. 2-0-6 from the last eight games leaves them no other choice but fighting in the bottom half of the table, but it has been some slight improvements of late. After beating Levanger (3-1), they got smashed by Mjondalen (6-2) before beating KFUM Oslo (2-0) last weekend. You can never know what to expect from this team and it is also the reason why the club can be relegated this season. The win against KFUM Oslo (2-0) was crucial though. It was a controlled win in the end after getting an early lead after 17 minutes.
Ranheim created another couple of big chances before halftime, but the score was still 1-0. KFUM Oslo created a couple of chances themselves in the second half and it was enough to make the home crowd nervous. It was therefore relieving when the lead got extended to 2-0 after 70 minutes was played. Ranheim did not create any more chances and the game faded out with 2-0 being the final score.
The importance cannot be clearer as the 10th and 11th place faces each other here. Fredrikstad has impressed a lot with Mons Ivar Mjelde in charge (4-2-1), while Ranheim has the opposite (2-0-6), but have managed two of their last three games. Fredrikstad has been involved in high-scoring games since their positive period began with all of their last seven games going over 2.5 goals. Ranheim has 3-1-9 away from home this season with eight of thirteen away matches going over 2.5 goals. With both teams literally being in the same position at the table, I expect a wide open game tonight. The first goal force the opposition to come forward and over 2.5 goals should be worth the pick here.
