France vs Romania by 20Legend
Finally, it is all set for the biggest tournament of the year when France kicks off thier own European Championship against Romania at Stade de France in Paris. The Frenchmen are heading into this tournament while knowing that they are one of the biggest favorites. France comes from four straight wins in their friendlies against Netherlands, Russia, Cameroon and Scotland (3-0). The team is in great shape and their offensive players have been showing great form as they have scored at least three goals in their last four games.
However, they have been showing some defensive slack as they have conceded two goals in three of these games as well. With both Varane and Sakho missing out of the tournament it will be Rami that takes place beside Koscielny. Rami has not been showing his best during the last games and it could be some worries when bigger teams occur in the tournament like Germany.
Possible lineup France: Lloris - Sagna, Rami, Koscielny, Evra - Matuidi, Kanté, Pogba - Griezmann, Giroud, Payet.
Romania is also heading into the tournament with a lot of confidence after beating Georgia (5-1) in their final friendly. It is also clear that Romania should not be underestimated in this group as they have only one loss from their last 15 games. Romania have got 2-2-1 from their last five games, with the loss coming against a strong Ukrainian side (3-4). Romania’s main strength is their defensive strictness with only two conceded goals from all 10 games in their qualification group.
Their keeper Tătărușanu (Fiorentina) has had a strong season for his club and is a good keeper that plays at the highest level every day of the year. The team also has a good backline that knows each other well with Napoli’s Chiriches as the main figure. It is further up on the pitch where things are difficult for this team. They have no class players that can dominate upfront and score the important goals out of nothing. With that being said, they should not be underestimated upfront either, with eight goals being scored from them in their last two friendlies.
Possible lineup Romania: Tătărușanu - Săpunaru, Chiricheș, Grigore, Raț - Pintilii, Hoban - Popa, Stanciu, Stancu - Andone.
This is absolutely not an easy game to predict as it is the first match in the tournament with a lot of questions unanswered. France is the host and the fans will surely do everything to support their own players. That is certainly a good thing for the French players, but it also leads to enormous pressure on each player during the tournament. Romania is far from an easy opponent and their defensive strictness could give even France a huge challenge.
Romania just conceded two goals during their qualification matches which are impressive despite their opponents not being the best. On the other side, Romania scored the least goals of all the team that participate in this tournament, which gives them a real challenge in the games that follows. I believe that France will take the win in this first match, but I think that it will be few goals involved. Nerves, opening day and Romania’ defensive focus are all factors that goes in to this statement.
France has offensive quality all the way, but it will demand a lot of patience in order to score here. Romania will surely make their efforts to destroy the French play and it should affect the score line in the end. It should be good chances of being under 2.5 goals after 90 minutes here.
