Fiorentina vs Roma by Enzo
Fiorentina seems to finally have entered a bit better form, as the team comes from their third consecutive victory. They easily overpowered Atalanta few days ago in Italian Cup game winning it in front of their own fans with a 3:1 score. Not only it was a well deserved victory, but the players of Viola have now scored nine goals in last three matches and are starting to show their full offensive potential.
All three goals were scored within first thirty minutes, two from Mario Gomez and one from Cuadrado from penalty spot. One of more positive sides out of the game is that their striker Mario Gomez responded to his critics with two goals and are surely now boosted with much better morale. As for the league competition, with two consecutive victories they are now on the verge of getting the European ticket, being sixth at the table with three points less than Sampdoria and Lazio. Coach Vincenzo Montella is likely to stick to winning 3-5-2 formation here. Central defender Stefan Savic (19/2) is suspended for this game, while the hosts continue to miss long term absentees goalkeeper Cristiano Lupatelli and striker Giuseppe Rossi, both without playing a single minute this season. Substitute forward Federico Bernardeschi (8/2) is out due injury, same as midfielder Alberto Aquilani (18/1) and offensive midfielder Josip Ilicic (14/2).
Roma needed extra-time few days ago in order to overcome Empoli and secured the progress to the next stage of Italian Cup. No doubt that the team has problems in offensive part of the game, as they looked very uncreative for the most of the game and in a need of better tempo when having the ball to their feet.
They took the lead in fifth minute with a goal from Iturbe, but got punished in 80th minute with an equalizer from Verdi. However, late into the second half of extra-time, De Rossi deservedly scored the winning goal from the penalty kick. As for Serie A, team is undefeated in last eight matches, but with obvious downtrend in their form as they drew recently against teams such as Palermo or Sassuolo, being now five points away from Juventus.. Radja Nainggolan and Daniele De Rossi are now back from suspension and should start in midfield together with Kevin Strootman. Federico Balzaretti remains long term absentee, while the visiting side also misses central defender Leandro Castan (1/0) and important right full back Vasilis Torosidis (12/1). Very important offensive midfielder/forward Gervinho (16/5) and defensive midfielder Seydou Keita (21/1) are out at African Cup of Nations international duty.
Roma is in obvious downtrend at this moment and we simply have to take advantage of such odds this time. Of course the draw can't be excluded, but the hosts look way better at the moment and deserve all the risk with odds of 2.50.
