Fiorentina vs Roma by Enzo
After three consecutive victories in Serie A, players of Fiorentina surprised in a negative way last Sunday evening when the side suffered narrow 2:1 defeat away to Crotone, side that is far below their standard of quality. The team simply paid the price of having two poor minutes, as they conceded two goals in the first halftime, in seventeenth minute via Budimir and a minute later via Trotta.
Players of Fiorentina were better till the end, had much more of the ball possession but lacked more effort in the final touch as the home team remained somehow more threatening via counter attacks, while Viola only managed to reduce the deficit via Benassi in 44th minute, without further change even though they had much more of the ball possession. After eleven rounds, they had just a mediocre 5-1-5 record being four points behind Europa League placed Sampdoria.
Hosts won't be counting at right back Vincent Laurini (7/0), offensive midfielder Riccardo Saponara (1/0) and forward Cyril Thereau (8/4).
Roma, on the other side, took a narrow 1:0 victory at home over Bologna last Saturday evening simply by playing as much as it was needed in order to get very expected three pointer. They were better till the goal came, till 32nd minute when El Shaarawy scored, while the side didn't do much in order to score the second goal, but also stood tight in defense for all ninety minutes.
This was third consecutive victory in Serie A for Roma, as the side now stands at fifth position with four points less than Champions League placed Lazio and even though the side has eight victories and two defeats for now, they are in a must win situation in order to keep the race running for the Champions League spots at least. During the midweek, players of Roma managed to get a morale boosting 3:0 victory over Chelsea in Champions League on Tuesday evening now almost securing the knockout phase spot having a point more than second placed English side and five more than Spanish Atletico Madrid.
Guests continue to miss left back Emerson who didn't perform so far and right back Rick Karsdorp (1/0). Kostas Manolas has fully recovered now and should start the game.
- Roma have kept a clean sheet in their last 4 away matches (Serie A).
Fiorentina is not a bad side, far away from it, but Roma have simply showed much more this season. There's no doubt that the visitors have a better squad, better individuals and were more solid and reliable during the season for now. Coming with a boosted morale after victory over Chelsea, I can't see Viola getting away with something here. They are simply poor when defending and the value is with the away side in my eyes.
