Fiorentina vs Chievo by Enzo
Fiorentina couldn't compete against much more superior and quality Juventus in the season opener, but even so they had some chance to walk away with something after their equalizer twenty minutes before the full time whistle, however it wasn't enough against a team that looked like they just want to get a victory and make the right step into the season.
Juventus took the lead in 37th minute via Khedira and were bit better during the match, while Kalinic equalized the result in 70th minute, just to see the home side re-gaining the lead five minutes later with a goal from Higuain. There is a bit of ugly atmosphere around Viola these days, since the team finished preparation period with five straight defeats and lost the opening round as well, not looking particularly threatening during it, but the team will be hoping now to get on the right track with a victory over visitors from Verona.
Fiorentina should be playing in 4-2-3-1 formation with Kalinic as number nine and Ilicic, Valero and Bernardeschi as offensive midfielders. Central defender Gonzalo Rodriguez is doubtful and will hardly play, while offensive midfielder Borja Valero also remains questionable but with bit better chances to play. Offensive Mauro Zarate remains injured. Sebastian De Maio may make his debut with Viola.
Chievo, on the other side, surprised many with their victory in the first round against Chievo at home with a 2:0 result. Of course, players from Milan had more of the ball possession, much more, but failed to do anything positive in their game and to be seriously threatening. On the other hand, Chievo tried more via counter attacks and it paid off to them this time.
Hosts took the lead in 49th minute via Birsa, while the same player sealed the victory nine minutes before the full time whistle, with Inter dominating the field in between, but without real reaction as it seems that their biggest worry in the new season will be scoring goals. Chievo didn't change the team much during the transfer window and fluid play might be one of the biggest weapons early in the season.
Chievo, on the other side, is set to play in 4-3-1-2 formation with Inglese and Meggiorini as strikers, plus Birsa as central offensive midfielder. Offensive midfielder Lucas Castro (1/0) is injured, while Nicola Rigoni has just recovered from his muscular problems. Forward Antonio Floro Flores is also sidelined with injury.
- Fiorentina have won their last 5 home matches against Chievo.
Chievo made a terrific start with their victory over Inter at home with a really good performance. I expect the team to continue at the same level for some time, while Viola remains favorite to win this game, but it should be really hard for them. Even if they win, I see it coming only as a narrow victory, while the visitors from Verona have really decent chance to get a draw at least and stay undefeated against not that fluid Fiorentina.
