Excelsior vs Zwolle by Meese
Excelsior suffered their third consecutive defeat last weekend, as the team welcomed Roda and suffered narrow 1:0 defeat, even though they looked slightly better for the most of the game. Only goal was scored in 56th minute with a goal from Boysen, while the home team tried to respond and had chances, however without a change in the scoreline.
Their previous defeats were at home against way stronger PSV and on the road to Go Ahead Eagles, but now, there's no doubt that the team has come for the players of Excelsior to since another negative result would bring them close to the relegation zone and would detach themselves from the middle of the table. Team is now at ninth position with ten points earned, which is four points less than seventh and play-off placed Twente.
Hosts should be playing in 4-3-3 formation with Elbers, Hasselbaink and Ribeiro in attack. Central defender Arghus (1/0) and goalkeeper Alessandro Damen (no performance so far in the season) remain injured.
Zwolle, on the other side, is having almost terrible start of the season but the team improved well in previous two matches, coming from a draw and a victory prior to it. They now have a victory, three draws and five defeats, which puts them still at the rock bottom position, however with only a point less than safely placed WIllem II and the team is now more than active in the league battle.
They come from a 2:2 draw away from home against Twente last weekend, even though their opponents were leading twice, had more of the ball possession and overall looked a bit more concrete. Hosts took the lead from a penalty kick taken in 10th minute via Klich, while Mokhtar leveled up five minutes before the halftime whistle. Hosts were better in the latter phase of the game and took the lead again in 77th via UNal, but the visitors were a bit lucky to equalize again, in 84th via Warmerdam.
Visitors are set to play in 4-2-3-1 formation with Achahbar as central striker, plus Ehizibue, Saymak and Mokhar as offensive midfielders. Defensive midfielder Rick Dekker is injured from the start of the season, but they also miss defender Dirk Marcellis (8/0), forward Nicolai Brock-Madsen (2/0), offensive Ryan Thomas (9/0), midfielder Max de Boom (1/0) and forward Stef Nijland (3/0).
- Excelsior have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 5 home matches against PEC Zwolle.
Excelsior is close to a must win situation and the hosts will surely come up very offensive here. Similar should be said for Zwolle, but the team is also improving a lot lately and proving to be more efficient than usually. Goals are what I expect here, since neither of the teams have time to wait for and sit back in the defense.
