Excelsior vs Roda by Meese
Excelsior had a bit of downtrend in their form in recent matches and it seems that the international break came in the best possible momentum for them, since the team suffered two consecutive defeats and is without a victory in last three matches. Their defeat at home against PSV was more than expected, but it's sure that the team could have reacted at least a bit better in their 3:0 defeat on the road against Go Ahead Eagles.
It must be said that the visiting side didn't look that poor as the result is showing and that the final outcome could have been much better and in their favor on some other day. Hosts were however, simply much more concrete in attack and celebrated the victory thanks to a goal from Duits in 11th minute and two goals from penalty kicks taken by Hendricks. Players of Excelsior stood playing with a man less since 57th minute when Pantic got excluded, so the job was even easier for the home side to maintain the lead.
Home side is set to play in 4-3-3 formation with Ondaan and Ribeiro as wingers, plus Hasselbaink as central striker. Midfielder Danilo Pantic (3/0) is suspended for this match, while injured remain goalkeeper Alessandro Damen (no performance so far), plus forward Cedric Badjeck (2/0) and central defender Arghus (1/0).
Roda is doing completely terrible so far in the season and the team will need to improve a lot in order to stay even competitive in the relegation battle this season. They have only three points earned so far, which puts them at the rock bottom position of Eredivisie, already three points away from safely placed sides. Even more worrying is that the team still has no victory this season, moreover scoring only three goals so far.
Atmosphere in the locker room is nowhere close to a positive one, since the team has four consecutive defeats in a row, coming from a 0:1 home defeat against Nijmegen last time out. That time they were actually a bit better than the opponent, but the team looked a bit un-mature and lost the concentration towards the end of the game conceding a goal in 78th minute via Mayi, without a proper chance from that moment on.
Visitors from Roda will be playing also in 4-3-3 formation with Paulissen, Mytidis and Noor as forwards. Their under pressure boss Giannis Anastasiou will have to do without injured right full back Martin Milec (4/0), central defender Frederic Ananou (5/0), forward Simon Church (4/0) and couple more players who dind't play so far in the season anyway.
- Roda have failed to score in their last 6 matches (Eredivisie).
Excelsior looked far better so far in the season and I'm convinced the team is way closer to get the victory than what the current odds show. Roda did very little in attack this season (in first eight rounds scoring only three goals) and I can't see them being fully competitive this time out.
