Slavia Sofia vs Ilves

Slavia Sofia can be fully satisfied with the result from the first leg. They were set as equal to their opponents away from home in Helsinki, but the side managed to get narrow 1:0 victory and have made their situation much easier in front of the second game.

The game itself wasn't that uninteresting, as the game looked decently open with the guests having bit more of the ball possession overall. Players from Finland had some decent offensive phases in the second part, but couldn't convert. On the other side, Bulgarians waited for their chances and got the leading goal in 80th minute via Tsvetanov.

They already had one official game in the new season with the team losing Super Cup game against Ludogorets 1:0 two weeks ago now. They didn't change the squad much for now, bringing striker Velkovski from Lokomotiv Plovdiv and couple of more talented players for now.

Ilves tried to do something more in the first leg, knowing that the situation won't be easy at all when they play on the road. Despite some decent chances created, the team didn't manage to get a positive outcome suffering 1:0 narrow defeat in the end.

No doubt that they will need to open up and risk even more in the second leg if the team wants to continue playing in the Europa League. One of the positive things is that their season is in progress for now. The team most recently has lost to Rovaniemi 2:0 a week before they have played the game against Bulgarians.

The side is currently at seventh position at the table with six victories, six draws and six defeats - being already six points behind Europa League and third placed Honka. Meaning that their chances of re-entering European competition next season are slim. Central defender Baba Mensah is long term absentee.

I see Slavia winning this one again. Ilves should be only weaker on the road and having in mind that they need to risk more and attack, Bulgarians will have more than often space to create them a lot of problems in defense.

Ilves comes from Tampere (city in Finland) not from Helsinki.

I’m quite sure that Sofia will win this game. Team Ilves has nothing to lose but still their focus will surely be in coming veikkausliiga’s matches.

  3. DamirJ says:

The game was played in Helsinki, not in Tampere.

  4. Bannion says:

Yes. The 1st game was easy. I don’t know why they had put Ilves as favorites, at the moment they are a mid table team in a really bad league. Slavia on the other hand is bigger team than HJK.

However, Finns are at their worst when somebody is expecting something from them, and at their best when nobody is expecting anything. Usually Finnish betting mines are build from this kind of set up.

I would say Slavia will win this game (maybe 3-0 who knows), but odds are pretty much right at the moment. This of course means that there isn’t any value in this fixture. I trust one of the Finnish teams at least to score today. If it will be Ilves, it is harder to say.

    I will void this game.

Well i was in Helsinki wathing the game and only because of bad luck Ilves coudnt score. The real class difference between these clubs wasnt there when they played. Slight minus for ilves not playing home thou theyve played in helsinki alot. Anyway today they have to open up today so ibthink there will be really good chances for both yoday. Havent looked at the odds but we could have over game here.

  6. ArmdnDangrous says:

And dont missunderstand my words, didnt mean in any means that Ilves shouldve been a favourite in Helsinki. But today they have to speed up a bit and that should open up for both, atleast for Slavia as Ilves isnt the best away team. If the continue the good play as in Helsinki they should at some point score or give counters to Slavia which they propably going to use at home!!
