Samtredia vs Tobol
Samtredia are bottom of the Georgian league and far from last years performances when they finished on a respectable 3rd place. This year they are 1-6-11 and officially the worst team in Georgian elite football. It has been turbulent across the club.
The typical Georgian football team pattern with huge squad turnover applies for Samtredia too, but not least have they changed coaches in a strange set up. Coach Ucha Sosiashvili was appointed during the season and has led the team to disaster results domestically. Instead, it was decided that former coach, Gia Tsetsadze, will take over during the European games in hopes that they can find last seasons form.
Apart from the long row of red results, Samtredia will try to pull an upset with a limited playing material. Their star is forward Michael Olaitain from Nigeria, along side Inters Gui on the left wing. Their most recent signing is right back Dmytro Ulyanov, who arrived from the second division in Ukraine.
They typically play a 3-5-2 formation, where Ivan Fatic plays a big role. However, in general the team consist of Georgian players, with no international players present.
Tobol are good travellers with an 8-0-1 record in the relatively strong domestic league. They are also 33% consisting of foreign players which obviously boost their quality, whereby also having 10 international players.
Coach Vladimir Nikitenko is an experienced manager who was recently in charge of the Kazahstans U21 team, and currently doing a great job at Tobol, who find themselves at 3rd place. Kazakhstan winger Tanat Nuserbayev is a key player offensively, along side captain Azat Nurgaliyev. They also have Georgian presence in defensive midfielder Jaba Kankava, and Nika Kvekveskiri.
Tobol plays a 3-4-3 formation usually and topped with experienced players who have been around in Eastern European leagues. They are in a good position domestically and have gotten an excellent draw in Samtredia for progress in Europe.
Samtredia have gone downhill for a long time and has a combined value of around €3 million for the entire squad. Their opponents, Tobol, are worth around €10 million in comparison and currently the second best team in Kazakhstan. I see no other reasonable outcome in current circumstances, than a victory for the visitors. A top team from Kazakhstan should easily discard the bottom team of Georgia.
