Freiburg vs Domzale by Gustav
Freiburg had one of the best seasons in recent years in previous one, as the team finished at seventh position and earned a position that lead them in Europa League qualifiers. They looked rather well during the most of the season and lost the group stage place in last four rounds, when the team has suffered three defeats to end just a point below group stage placed Hertha Berlin.
Their biggest weapon was playing in front of their own fans and knowing that, I have no doubt that the team will want to build up on that now and make a great impression against the Slovenian side. During the preparation period, the team won over amateur side Freiburger 8:0, then suffered defeat against Sandhausen 3:0, but looked generally above decent in last two friendlies when they won over Turkish side Konyaspor 2:0 and against Dutch giants Feyenoord 1:0 last Saturday evening. Defenders Caglar Soyuncu (24/0 previous season) and Lukas Kubler (16/0 last season) won't be playing here due injuries. Other defender Manuel Gulde (20/0 in last season) comes from injury and lacks match fitness.
Domzale, on the other side, already made fine job by progressing to the third round as the team previously excluded Flora Tallin in first round and team from Iceland Valur in the second round. Estonians weren't much of a task as they already had 2:0 lead from the first leg, but run into bit of a problem since the Estonians had 2:0 lead after twenty-two minutes in the first halftime in the re-match, however Slovenians have scored three till the end making a great response.
On the other hand, they took a 1:2 victory in Iceland against Valur, maybe a bit undeservedly, but showed off better performance in the second leg and won that clash with a 3:2 result in an overall very open game where the visiting side had their own chances too. As for the domestic league, Domzale has started with a loss to Rudar 2:1 in the season opener, but improved last weekend when they won in front of own fans 4:0 against Celje.
Striker Kristijan Sipek (no performance so far) is injured and long term absentee.
Domzale is a decent side and can progress couple of rounds in Europa League qualifiers usually, however playing against Bundesliga side should be totally another level for them. Slovenians didn't convince that much at the back during the previous games and I don't see them being very competitive in this one. Freiburg should be able to record a victory that will almost guarantee them progress further.
