Fola vs Prishtina
Fola ended up previous domestic National Division competition at the third spot securing the Europa League ticket two rounds before the actual end of it. They had a 1-5-7 record and were far away from actual title race this time.
They ended up with twenty-one point less than champions from Dudelange. Scoring goals wasn't much of their problem as the side scored seventy-two, same as second placed Niedercorn, but have conceded fourty-one goal, something that was too much out of twenty-six rounds - even for the teams which are lower ranked than the European race involved sides.
Out of more important friendlies this Summer, players from Luxembourg managed to get a 2:1 victory over Fortuna Koln eleven days ago. They took the lead in first minute via Muharemovic, while Semedo doubled up the lead in 62nd minute. 3rd league side in Germany only reduced their deficit in 83rd minute via Ceylan.
The team participates in UEFA competition continiously in last five seasons only making a bit of difference last season when they managed to progress against Moldavian side Milsami Orhei and Azerbaijan's Inter Baku in first two rounds of Europa League.
Third obstacle was too much as they suffered exclusion to Swedish side Ostersunds with a 1:2 home defeat and narrow 1:0 loss away from home. They do have a roster of few international players, but those who failed to reach real professional level in other countries.
Prishtina lost the title last season in their Superliga in the last rounds of the competition ending it with three points less than champions from Drita. It could be said that too many draws were their problems, as the side had the strongest defense in the league but have scored only thirty-nine goals in thirty-three rounds of Superliga.
However, they confirmed the reputation by taking the Cup's finals when they won over Vellaznimi in after penalty kicks serie late in May. The side already played pre-qualification round of Europa League in last weeks, firstly taking a 1:1 draw away to Europa FC from Gibraltar even though they were better in the first game already.
They showed complete quality difference in the second leg when the team won with a 5:0 result. Goalscorers were Dallku twice from penalty, Mankenda, Januzi and Pefqeli one each. Prishtina as a club already played last season in the Europa League competition when they were excluded by Norrkoping with a 0:6 aggregate score.
Their coach Mirel Josa is in the club since Autumn 2017 previously having quite success in Albania with their force Skenderbeu from previous season. The side has actually some pretty experienced players in the roster, such as defender and team captain Armend Dallku (who spent eleven seasons playing for Ukrainian side Vorskla and was capped 64 times for Albanian national team).
Other defender Debatik Curri also had spells in Ukraine and Turkey (44 caps for Albania). Striker Ahmed Januzi also played for many years in Vorskla, while midfielder Drasko Boskovic played in several clubs Balkan leagues. Few of the players have experience playing for more reputable Albanian clubs.
Away team actually has some pretty quality players for this stage of the Europa League qualifiers. They are doing more than fine at the defensive lineup and I have no doubts that they remain once again favorites to progress further. Under such circumstances I believe there is plenty of value in this one.
