Excelsior vs Den Haag by Meese
Excelsior made a great in the new season getting six points out of two rounds, since they managed to get a home victory over Groningen 2:0 last weekend after their good performance on the road and a victory against Twente 2:1. They opened up the scoreline against Groningen already in second minute with a header from Mattheij, while the team missed several good chances to increase the lead.
They were a bit anxious towards the end, but still managed to seal the game with a goal in third minute of additional time via Vermeulen, while the visitors also had couple of good chances, even hitting the post few minutes earlier. Their manager was satisfied, saying that it was team's effort, but that the whole club remains down to the earth. They were deemed as one of the favorites to hit the rock bottom spot, but the team does just well for now, still trying to add some more option in their attack during the end of transfer window.
Home side should be playing in 4-3-3 formation with Elbers, Hasselbaink and Ribeiro as forwards. Defender Milan Massop (1/0) is doubtful with chances to play. Sidelined due injuries remain goalkeeper Alessandro Damen, defender Arghus and midfielder Jeffry Fortes, all three without playing in the new season. Their coach is expected to field pretty much the same squad as he did in previous round. Midfielder Pantic could be given debut here.
Den Haag, started in the same way as their tonight's opponents, as the team also improved in comparison to the previous season and has started the new one with two three pointers. After their 3:0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles in the season opener, the team made a great surprise by winning over Vitesse away from home with a 2:1 result last weekend.
Maybe even more surprising was the fact that the players of Den Haag managed to maintain really good level of performance forabout 65 minutes of the match. However, home side managed to take the lead in 22nd minute via van Wolfswinkel, while the visiting side replied in the best possible way, with quick equalizer. They equalized in 31st minute via Kastaneer, scoring the second goal in 61st minute with the same player.
Their manager Petrovic said that the team was lucky in the first halftime, but in general they did well and he is satisfied. Still adding that it's only the start of the season and that they have accomplished nothing so far. Visitors from Den Hag should be playing in 4-2-3-1 formation with Havenaar as numer nine, but also with Schaken, Duplan and Kastanner as offensive midfielders. They are still looking to add more depth to the roster by trying to sign some players on loan deal. Defender Dion Malone remains injured, but without contribution this season.
- Excelsior have seen over 2.5 goals in 14 of their last 17 matches against ADO Den Haag.
Both teams have opened the season in a best possible way and can play a bit more relaxed in this one. I'm leaning towards the visiting side, but the first choice will remain over goals, since they both have much better offensive lineups than their defenders are reliable. Shouldn't be much of a task for these two sides.
