Balzan vs Videoton by Luke
Nobody expected Balzan to walk away with something in the first leg clash in Hungary, but the Maltese side still managed to give a decent fight and actually have a clean sheet for a lot of time, conceding twice inside last fifteen minutes.
No doubt that they were passive and were usually defending, but it worked well for them for the most of the time, while the side now approaches almost mission impossible - they are two goals down and need to surprise everyone in order to make the things more interesting in the second leg. Their season is still not even approaching and the team can't be in the best possible shape, something that was visible towards the end of the first game.
The team ended as second in previous season of Maltese Premier League, having seven points less than champions from Hibernians, but needs to be said that they weren't in any kind of title race with Hibernians. As for the Cup competition, they were excluded in the quarter-finals to Premier League side Tarxien.
Videoton, on the other side, probably thought that they will be getting an easier victory, however surely will be satisfied with a two goals difference without a goal conceded ahead of their trip for the second leg.
They probably weren't the most concrete in attack, however still reached the victory thanks to goals from Scepovic in 79th and Lazovic in fourth minute of additional time, worth saying is that Scepovic also missed a penalty kick few minutes before he scored the opener. Hungarians played two friendlies before this game, winning over Crotian side Zapresic 2:0 and against Rostov 1:0.
Players like central defender Roland Juhadz (ex Anderlecht), defensive midfielder Anel Hadzic (ex Sturm and Eskisehirspor), forwards Marko Scepovic (ex Partizan, Olympiakos, Mallorca) and Danko Lazovic (ex Partizan, Feyenoord, PSV, Zenit etc) are the ones who would be considerately more quality players against even way stronger opponents. Midfielder David Barczi (5/0 in previous season) won't be playing here.
There are some serious investments in Videoton in previous years and the club is much better, more organized side than their opponent and should record an easy victory here. They are much more quality and should be playing better and better as the time progresses. There's simply some serious quality with the away side in comparison to their opponents.
