Espanyol vs Almeria by Isaiah
Espanyol took their third consecutive victory during this midweek, with a 3:1 rather impressive victory over Sevilla. They were much more concrete than their stronger opponent, simply knowing on the field what they wanted and being very, very concrete when having the ball in their own possession.
With this victory, they have a great chance to progress in the next round of Copa del Rey in case of playing good defending game in the second leg. As said, this was their third victory in competitive matches, previously wining over Celta and Valencia. One of the main problems remains much poorer performances on the road, but that's the reason why the team takes this game very important as they know they have to get most of the points in front of their own crowd, not being able to show their full potential away from home. Only absentee for the home team will be missing of right full back Anaitz Arbilla (12/0) who is still injured.
Almeria, on the other side, got defeated away to Valencia last weekend with a 3:2 result. Even though final result seems that the game was very balanced, it was far away from it with the visitors actually being very lucky to struck twice. Parejo opened the scoreline in 11th minute for the hosts, while the visitors replied out of nowhere only two minutes later via Hamed.
Rodrigo brought the hosts once again in 28th minute, while the same player of visiting side leveled up the result once again, this time in 33rd minute. From then on, hosts were much more concrete and had almost all ball possession, finally getting the deserved victory with a goal from Negredo in 83rd minute. This was their second consecutive defeat, with the team previous losing at home against Sevilla, while they continue to be within the relegating positions, now with only a point below the safe zone. First choice goalkeeper Ruben Martinez (15/0) and substitute forward Quique Gonzalez (3/0) are still injured, while the visitors also miss forward Thievy Bifouma (16/2) who is tied up with African Cup of Nations international duty.
Espanyol seems to finally getting into the right form and in front of their own crowd, they should be able to get a victory here easy or hard. Hosts should simply be too strong for them this time, while the odds are still worth taking.
