Elche vs Gimnastic by Jimeno
Elche is not having very positive form lately, since the team has lost three out of previous four matches played in Segunda. Most recently, they suffered 1:0 narrow defeat away from home against Alcorcon previous weekend. Only goal was scored at the start of the second halftime via Rodriguez in 51st minute, with the visitors having overall more of the ball possession and were controlling the ball, however without making real chances during the match.
Making chances is one of their biggest problems at the moment as the team usually have decent share of ball possession, but fails to convert that into more concrete things on the field. In front of own fans, they have two straight defeats now and they simply can't afford to lose another one, since it would increase undesired negative atmosphere for sure. They ended up the previous season in the middle of the table and it seems that the team won't be able to make a step closer to promotion this season either.
Defensive midfielder Mandi (2/0) is injured, as they continue also to miss goalkeeper Pol Freixanet (no performance so far) and central defender Armando Lozano (also no performance).
Gimnastic, on the other side, is having really disappointing start int he season, since the team still awaits for their first victory, having for now five draws and three defeats. Situation and atmosphere isn't completely terrible since the team had some draws which could have been victories, as they also simply need to turn around their luck as well.
At the moment, they are at rock bottom position at the table, having only five points earned, which is just two less than team placed in the safe zone. In the most recent game, they took a point in a home draw against Sevilla B, with a 1:1 result. They took the initiative at the start and scored in seventh minute via Uche, but the visitors easily replied in 19th minute via Cruz.
Home side was dominating and controlling the ball much more than their opponents, but couldn't find a way to get the winning goal, not even in last seven minutes of the match when the visitors were playing with a man less. Goalkeeper Manolo Reina is long term absentee, same as central defender Manolo Martinez, both without performing this season.
Gimnastic is a side that was fighting for the promotion in previous season and they have entered this one with similar ambition, but the team didn't click properly yet. I have no doubts that they have plenty of more potential than what the current situation shows and therefore, I see odds as very valuable ones this time. Eclhe is not going into the right direction at the moment and they surely aren't a better team here.
