Dundalk vs Galway by Shibby
Irish Premier League action for me in a game that will see second placed Dundalk host bottom club Galway United. The game will be played at Oriel Park and will kick off at 19:45. I'm pretty sure bottom club Galway will be looking to get themselves of the bottom of the table with a draw or a win, however, I think Dundalk will be too strong for them on this occasion.
The hosts Dundalk haven't started the season as well as many would have expected, just look at last season, Dundalk won the league and were crowned champions. They also had an amazing run in Europe and were tantalizingly close to Champions League football!! For a club this size that would have been a huge achievement to say the least! This season just hasn't started as well for Dundalk as they find themselves training league leaders Cork City by an amazing 18 points already! This just after 19 games played. I think Cork will go on to win the league, however, I expect Dundalk to make a real push, the season is still young. :)
Dundalk head into the game on the back of a 4-0 victory on Friday at home to Finn Harps, the game before that ended 6-0 in favour of Dundalk (vs Drogheda), so they have started to pick up form again and look like the team they were last season. Dundalk haven't conceded a goal in their 7 of their last 8 fixtures, the only goals they have conceded were 3 against Cork! This is a great run and I expect them to continue again tomorrow.
Irish football seems to thrive at this time of season, the reason being, a lot of English clubs go looking for a bargain in these leagues! Ireland have produced some amazing players over the past few years and these players have made the step up, Seamus Coleman the most recent find!
The game vs Finn Harps didn't start too brightly and it took Dundalk until the 51st minute to open the scoring, however, once they had the first one they soon managed 3 more. They seem to be getting goals from several players too, which is always great for teams.
The visitors for the game are Galway United, they were lucky not to be relegated last season, however, there were just a couple more worse teams than them, this year I'm not too sure to be honest. Galway have now gone 5 games without a win, their last 5 games has seen 4 defeats and 1 draw. They are usually strong away from home, however, I know Cork City won them earlier this season 4-0 and also Dundalk beat them in this same fixture last year 4-1.
Galway also played on Friday, however, they were beaten by Bray, 2-1. Bray found themselves 2-0 up after just 30 minutes, so could relax a little and play some football. A late goal from Folan wasn't enough to get a result for Galway.
I expect the home side to really put the pressure on vs Galway, Dundalk know that if they are to stand any chance of getting a result at the end of the season they will need to start and get some results together. This game is a perfect opportunity to do so. I think a good bet for this game is for Dundalk to score over 2.5 goals as a team. This is priced at 1.83 with Marathonbet. I can see Dundalk getting at least 3 at home vs the bottom club. Good luck all.
