Derry City vs St Patricks

Derry City got completely outplayed last Monday evening when the team visited Cork City and stood defeated with a 5:0 result. Their opponents were better from the very first minute and there was nothing the guests could do in order to avoid defeat.

That first halftime was actually open from both sides and both of them had chances, even Derry had few decent tries. However, hosts were far more concrete and scored twice in the first halftime. Goals came via Buckley in 19th and Keohane in 34th minute while it made the game much more easier for them in the repetition.

Buckley scored his second in 50th minute, while Delaney and Coughlan scored too. It was completely spent halftime in the dominance of the home team that looked like a class above. Players of Derry City maybe weren't the freshest for this clash, since they had Europa League duties previously.

After a 0:2 defeat at home against Dinamo Minsk, the side played better away from home last Thursday evening in Belarus winning the match with a 1:2 result. Overall, probably their visitors took them too lightly this time as they took the lead in the seventh minute via Roy, while Dinamo leveled up in 28th via Sachivko. It wasn't very intense match as Hale brought them into the lead again in 75th minute. Despite not dominating, the side actually had fifteen minutes to score another goal and progress further.

Back to Premier Division duties, Derry is now at fifth position with eight points less than third placed Waterford. This means that they need to get a victory here in order to keep having some chances of reaching European stage for the next season as well. Newly signed midfielder Aaron Splaine is unavailable due injury. Midfielder Nicky Low is sidelined as well.

After seven consecutive defeats in Premier Division, players of St Patricks managed to get a victory last time out. It was last Friday evening when they won over Limerick with a 2:1 result at home.

Their performance wasn't that convincing and was against one of the least quality sides in the league, but still came in the best possible momentum to lift the atmosphere. Guests took the lead in the seventeenth minute via Dennehy from a penalty kick.

Players of Limerick were far more concrete in the first part and maybe could have scored a goal more. However, as the time progressed it was more about the hosts. They look simply like a side with far more energy in the second half. Three changes were made in the second halftime and team only started being more concrete in last fifteen minutes of the match.

Conan Byrne who came onto the field in second part scored twice (one from the penalty) in 77th and 80th minute. St Patricks looked better in the second halftime but also showed much more concrete things within last twenty minutes of the game.

As said, the side managed to break a very negative run with this victory, being now at sixth position at the table. That sixth position for the moment is giving them quite safe feeling now. They have twelve points more than relegating worried Limerick and eleven less than third and Europa League placed Waterford so lack of real ambitions may be causing fall in their form.

Derry City is far more productive in front of own fans and I have no doubt that they will be going for all three points here. St Patricks, despite most recent victory, has lot of to prove in order to be considered more serious especially away from home. Their poor form on the road makes players of Derry as quite a favorite in this one.
