Derby vs Preston by Shibby
Championship action tomorrow (02/02/2016) in a game that will see promotion favorites Derby host Preston. The game will be played at the iPro Stadium, Derby and will kick off at 19:45. The hosts head into the game on the back of a defeat to Premiership side Manchester United, the game ended 3-1 to United, however, this didn't tell the whole story for me, Derby at times played really well and looked like they matched the Premiership side across the field. United did take the lead when skipper Wayne Rooney opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a great curling effort. However, Thorne scored a great goal himself to pull things level in the 37th minute.
Derby went into the break full of confidence, however, the 2nd half seemed too much for them, Blind and Mata secured a victory for United and that saw them progress to the next round.
I know that Derby lost, however, losing to Manchester United would have been expected for all realistic Derby fans I'm sure. What I think it will have done is actually given them all a boost, playing in a game like that is a big deal for the Championship side and I think the fans were fantastic throughout the game. Clement will no doubt have his players up for the clash and I can see Derby getting the 3 points and kickstarting their push for automatic promotion.
Derby are still only 6 points away from the top 2 and will be looking to avoid the play off places by clinching automatic promotion. Derby have not won in their last 5 league games, 3 defeats and 2 draws, however, I don't think this tells the full story. Confidence seems to be low and that hopefully will have changed for the game tomorrow.
The visitors for the game are Preston North End, they have not had a great start to the season, however, find themselves in 16th in the league, 10 points above the relegation zone. Gray has done a good job all in all. Preston's last outing was a 3-1 defeat against Brentford, they didn't look great from start to finish and Brentford easily opened them up and created the chances they needed to get all 3 points.
Preston have not lost in their last 2 away games, however, prior to that they lost 3 away games in a row, one of these was a 2-0 defeat to League One club Peterborough.
I think Preston will be safe this season, however, games like these vs a good Derby team should be too much. Therefore, I think the price of 1.75 with Bet365 for a Derby win offers value. Good luck all.
