Deportivo vs Sociedad by Jimeno
In probably the most interesting game of the previous round, Deportivo La Coruna dind't manage to get anything out of their game away to Malaga, suffering 4:3 defeat. However, they were the ones who took the lead first in fourth minute from a penalty kick taken by Borges, while the hosts reverted till the end of the first halftime thanks to goals from Santos and Ramirez.
However, it needs to be said that Deportivo looked better in the first halftime and continued being better in the repetition as well, however stood behind 3:1 in the scoreline, in 56th minute via Santos, still managing to level up the result ten minutes before the full time whistle (via goals from Andone and Borges again), but somehow unfairly stood without even a point taken, since Malaga stole the victory with a goal from Ontiveros in first minute of additional time. Deportivo is now without a victory in last six matches, having two draws only and four defeats. At the moment, they are at eighteen position having just three points more than rock bottom placed Osasuna.
Home side will be playing in 4-4-2 formation with Andone and Moreno as strikers. Forward Ryan Babel (8/2) is carrying a knock and is doubtful for this match, same as midfielder Borja Valle (5/0). Right full back Laure (2/0) and offensive midfielder Bruno Gama (11/0) are injured.
Sociedad, on the other side, comes from a important point taken at home against surely way more superior Barcelona, but individual quality wasn't that obvious on that night. If anything, players of Sociedad were the ones who controled the match and not only that, created more dangerous situations in front of opponents goal and if any team deserved a victory, that would be the home team.
Willian Jose brought them into the lead in 53rd minute, but Barcelona responded six minutes later via Messi, however without controlling the game as they usually do whatsoever. This was first draw for Sociedad after four consecutive victories, as the team is in obviously good form since they climbed up to sixth position now, having just two points less than Champions League placed Atletico Madrid on fourth position. They confirmed good form during the midweek, when the team easily won over Valldolid 3:1 away from home in Cope del Rey game using rotated squad.
Visitors from Sociedad will be playing in their typical 4-3-3 formation with Vela, Jose and Qyarzabal as forwards. Defensive midfielder Ruben Pardo (3/0) and central midfielder Markel Bergara (4/0) are injured, as well as midfielder Gaztanga who didn't perform this season anyway. Questionable is offensive midfielder/forward Mikel Oyarzabal (13/0).
- Real Sociedad have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 away matches against Deportivo.
- Real Sociedad are undefeated in their last 6 matches against Deportivo.
Sociedad is in much better momentum now and I'm sure that the visiting side is closer to obtain all three points here. Deportivo is having way too many problems in the defensive line and should be able to stay here focused at the back. Draw can't be excluded, however as said, players of Sociedad should be having upper hand in this one.
