Midtjylland vs Aalborg by 20Legend
Midtjylland is finally going to continue their season and it seems like they are ready for that as well. The players has enjoyed a good training camp and secured vital match training despite not getting any specific good results though. However, they really were impressive in the Europa League when Manchester United was their opponent. Despite Manchester United not being what they used to this season, it was still pretty small chances left over to Midtjylland from the two games. The Danish men did not give a thought too what the media and other were saying and beat the Red Devils (2-1) at home. It was a perfect disposed game from them. Manchester United took a 0-1 lead through Depay after 37 minutes, but the host got back at 1-1 just before halftime through the young talented Pione Sisto. The second half presented chances to Manchester United early on, but Midtjylland created a lot toward the end, resulting in a 2-1 goal in the 77th minute. That was enough and Midtjylland was able to secure a good result before heading to the feared Old Trafford.
However, that became a whole other story as Manchester United really boosted their self-confidence again by winning 5-1. Midtjylland was taking the lead though as Pione Sisto was there once again, but it was just uphill from there. An own goal made Manchester United get back and Untied also missed a penalty just before halftime. The second half belonged to the Red Devils and Midtjylland finished off by getting a red card as well after 87 minutes. However, their eager to play football was totally astonishing as long as their adventure lasted. Their Norwegian newcomer from Molde, midfielder Harmeet Singh, is now available for Midtjylland as he was not allowed to play in Europe because of his games in Europa with Molde earlier this season. He is a clever player that has the ability to control the midfield on this level if he gets the chance. His biggest advantage is his passing skills which could come in handy in order to setup their attackers for example. However, their keeper Johan Dahlin (4 games) is still missing with his jumper’s knee, as he will focus on rehabilitation for the next weeks.
Aalborg has been in a major form before the winter break which they finished off with 5-0-0 from their last five games. They are therefore in 2nd place currently with 11-1-6 in total and 34 points. Their main strength has clearly been their goal scoring efforts as they are by far the best scoring team so far with 39 goals in their 18 games. Adding that they have conceded 23 goals as well, you could see why they are so high up on the table. Aalborg did also enjoy their staying at the training camp in Spain earlier this month with high quality on both training and in club friendlies. They were unbeaten during their total six club friendlies (5-1-0) since the middle of January and their goal scoring did really continue to roll. They actually scored three goals in five of the six games they played and two goals in the sixth game. Their last test against Malmo FF (3-0) clearly showed how strong they are offensively this season. Their coach Lars Sondergaard is clear on what he expects of this game as he wants to build on their performances that they delivered before the winter-break and during their club friendlies. Defender Jacob Ahlmann (4/0) and attacker Jannick Pohl (0/0) are both missing for Aalborg tonight.
This is a top match between the 2nd and 4th place with only three points between them at the table. However, Midtjylland has one game in hand and could therefore really appreciate a win here. Midtjylland finished off quite weak before the break with only 1-1-3 from their last five games. However, they have really shown a different character against Manchester United which is promising. Aalborg finished strong before the break and has been highly impressive through their club friendlies as well. I tend to lean on goals in this match as a league game between these two has never finished without goals through its history. Midtjylland has been a strict defensive team this season (26:14 on goal difference), but they have not been able to keep a clean sheet in their last six league games. Midtjylland has been very strong at home (6-1-2 and 16:7 on goal difference), while Aalborg has 5-0-4 and 13:14 on goal difference away from home. However, given they guests offensive play this season I can see them getting at least one goal here, while I also see Midtjylland continuing on their performance against Manchester United at their own stadium. A classic top match with both teams scoring seems reasonable and the odds is good as well.
