Den Haag vs Zwolle by 20Legend
Den Haag is currently in 11th place in Eredivisie after 23 games have been played and only two points behind tonight’s opponent. They have enjoyed a very strong period lately as they have 3-1-1 and 11:8 on goal difference from their last five games with them. Den Haag is coming from a nice win against 16th placed Excelsior (2-4) last Sunday, after what was a strong last quarter from them. After taking an early lead after nine minutes, Excelsior actually managed both to equalize and take a 2-1 lead that lasted until the 78th minute. The coach, Henk Fräser, decided to make a change and let Dennis van der Heijden get some minutes and what a response he got. Van der Heijden scored twice in the following eight minutes assisted by Mike Havenar who scored the last goal which made the final score 2-4.
Dylan Nieuwenhuijs (0/0), Gianni Zuiverloon (19/2) and Giovanni Korte (13/0) will all be missing tonight’s game.
Zwolle (10th place) did finally get their first win in five games last Sunday against Feyenoord (3-1). It was about time after having a poor period of late as their last win came in the middle of January. However, the game against Feyenoord was very solid and showed clear character against a team that has no confidence at this time. Zwolle’s top scorer Veldwijk was on fire in this match with two goals and one assist. He put his team in front after 15 minutes, but Feyenoord managed to get back level after 41 minutes and the half faded out with the score 1-1. Zwolle just continued their strong effort when the second half whistle blew and it paid off immediately as Veldwijk scored against after 50 minutes. That lead was crucial to them as it quickly got the belief back on track, while the opposite happened to Feyenoord who have also lacked self-confidence since their first game in 2016. The game then was flatting out a bit as Zwolle worked hard to get the three points and when Ehizibue scored two minutes into extra time, it was no doubt about a well-deserved 3-1 win in the end.
The negative part is their injury news towards this match as their captain Bram van Polen (21/3) is injured and will not play. Sheraldo Becker (17/3), Ryan Thomas (12/2), keeper Kevin Begois (14/0), Abdelmalek El Hasnaoui (9/0) and Mustafa Saymak (0/0) are also missing. However, it turns out that none of these players were able to play against Feyenoord either, so nothing is changed from Zwolle’s match last weekend.
I think that we will be up for another interesting match in Eredivisie tonight as both teams are usually offensive minded. While Zwolle being in 6th place on the over/under statistics with (14/9) to show for so far, Den Haag is not far behind with a 9th place with (13/10) to show for. Their head-to-head statistic says it all as well with five out of the last six meetings going over 2.5 goals since 2013. Zwolle has something to build on once again, while Den Haag will try to continue their nice streak that they have at the moment. We should therefore expect at least three goals in my opinion.
