Den Haag vs G.A. Eagles by Meese
Den Haag has undergo a transition period in previous season as the club changed the owner and failed to achieve something special last year. At first there was optimism when Chinese Wang Hui took over the club, but after liquidity problems and delay of payments, whole story turn out into huge concern for all of their fans.
However, the team was able to stay away from the relegation zone and it was a positive thing, but also failed to build up and earn a ticket for Europe, ending the previous season at eleventh position. They did disappoint in the Cup competition, being eliminated against amateurish side in the second round early in September. There was a change in the coaching position as well, as Zeljko Petrovic took over the charge and is expected to field quite a new lineup, including no less than five new players for the season opener of his team.
Quite a few players left the club as well, while the team remained undefeated during the friendly matches, but didn't impress completely either. Most notable, were their victories over Hercules 1:0, Iraklis 1:0 and Karabukspor 2:0. They are expected to have the similar season as previous one, without worries regarding their stay in Eredivisie. Right full back Dion Malone (25 matches in previous season) will miss the premiere, as well as winger Ludcinio Marengo (21 match last season). Participation of midfielder Kevin Jansen (28/5 last season) is doubtful.
Go Ahead Eagles did well in previous season and manage to return directly to Eredivisie. They have ended as fifth in the regular part of the season, but showed their best when it was needed the most and the team managed to get through to the first tier of Dutch football thanks to victories over Venlo and De Graafschap later on.
They have also changed the coach during that season back in February which proved to be the key change, as the whole team transformed for the better. Hans de Konning remained at the helm and now has a target to remain in the league, nothing more than that. During the transfer season the team was pretty active, but without well known names, just the ones who have a place in the original lineup or add depth to their roster and bench. Additionally, they have signed forward Hendrick from Ajax on a loan deal.
Important central defender Fried has retired in comparison to the previous season, while the team avoided the strongest opponents during friendlies and now remains to be seen whether it was a positive thing. They have no fresh injury worries for the premier.
For me, Den Haag has complete role of a favorite here. The game might be a bit harder for them in case the visitors play in an organized way, however I believe the hosts have what it takes to get the victory here easy or hard.
