Club Brugge vs Mechelen by Isaiah
Nine rounds till the end of the regular season of Belgium Championship, there is no doubt that Club Brugge is the favorite to end up at the first position, as they have four points more than second placed Anderlecht. Their season goes very well so far, as the team also continues to play in two other competitions, domestic Cup and Europa League.
Not only that, but the team is undefeated since August last year and currently has 26 games row in all competitions without having any loss. They had two friendly matches during the holiday break, winning 3:0 over Albanian side Skenderbeg and a narrow 1:0 victory over Heracles. They have signed two player during the break, central defender Denswil from Ajax and midfielder Claudemir from FC Copenhagen, both being ready and fit to play. but most likely they won't perform here already. Important and first choice goalkeeper Ryan (21/0) is not available here as he is with Australian national team squad on Asian Cup. Midfielder Vasquez (18/4) is injured and won't perform here. Central defender Engels (7/3) and winger Storm (13/0) are also sidelined with injuries. Formation should be 4-3-3 as always.
Mechelen is once again stuck at the middle of the table for one more season, without much risk to relegate, but also without being able to get the first six positions that lead to the play off stage. So far they have been very poor on the road, with only one victory, two draws and seven defeats away from home till now.
They are also competing in the Cup competition still and their game on Tuesday against the same rival will surely be much more important for every player of theirs. That's what their coach said as well, adding that if he had to pick, he would surely prefer to win the game next week. They signed goalkeeper Moris from Standard, also forward Verdier from Brest. Couple of players also left the team, while they were defeated 2:1 against Genk in the only friendly game they had. Defensive midfielder van Damme (12/0) is suspended for this game, while midfielder de Petter (7/0) remains sidelined. Formation will be 3-5-2 with offensive duo being Claes and Veselinovic.
Club Brugge is in a more than decent form at the moment, while Mechelen only cares for the Cup game next Tuesday. Having that in mind, home and quality factor are surely on the Club Brugge's side, while the motivation surely stands greatly with the home team as well.
