Charlton vs Southend by Shibby
League One action again for me, a game that will be played at The Valley, Charlton and will kick off at 15:00 UK time. The game will see 3rd placed Charlton Athletic host Southend United.
The home side will be heading into this clash winning 4 of their last 5 games. The game that they lost was a huge 5-1 defeat at the hands of a strong Norwich side, so I did expect this. Charlton in the league this season have looked strong, they have won 4 from their first 5 league games and currently sit on 12 points, just a point behind Peterborough and Shrewsbury. Their goals for and against stand at +11 -6 so it should be an entertaining game for sure.
Charlton's last two games have been away from home and have seen two good wins vs Rotherham United and Oldham. The game vs Rotherham could have been a complete different scoreline, Rotherham missed so many chances and Charlton did look liable in defence. Their next league game also highlighted this as they won Oldham 4-3. Even with an extra man Charlton still conceded a late goal and it could have been worse.
I do like some of the Charlton players, Ricky Holmes on the wing looks too good for them, he looks like he could be playing at a high level Championship side. He is always running and creates a lot of chances for his team, as well as scoring the odd goal too. Manager Karl Robinson seems to have his side playing well and I expect this to continue today.
The visitors for the clash are Southend United, currently in 15th in the league on 6 points. They have won 1 drawn 3 and lost 1, so against, started well except for their defeat away at Rotherham which ended 5-0 in favour of the Millers.
Phil Brown their manager has a lot of experience in these leagues and I expect him to get the side back to winning ways soon enough. They have some very experienced players who are capable of winning games. 3 of their 5 league games this season has seen over 2.5 goals with goals at both ends, I think against a tough side like Charlton they will concede, however, with the way in which Charlton attack I would expect them to be caught out at the back also. I'll be backing Over 2.5 goals @1.85 with Marathonbet. Good luck all.
