Zilina vs Copenhagen

Zilina didn't actually have real opponent in Slovakian Fortuna League last season, as the team won the championship with sixteen points more than second placed Slovan Bratislava as they confirmed the title weeks and weeks before the league has ended.

As for the Cup competition, they were eliminated in quarter-finals away to Skalica, however it wasn't much of a disappointed since they were already leading the table big time. During the preparation period, the side tested a lot losing out 3:6 to Trencin at start, then winning over Polish side Podbeskidzie 6:0, but also suffered defeat against Slvaia Prague 4:0 and finally drew last Wednesday against Sigma Olomouc 3:3.

In comparison to last season, Zilina will be playing without goalkeeper Milos Volesak (29/0) and midfielder and team captain Viktor Pecovsky (11/0), while doubtful remains midfielder Jakub Holubek (18/1).

Similar to Zilina, Copenhagen also didn't have a real opponent in Danish Superliga last season, as they ended the season crowned as champions weeks before real end, ending the Championship with twenty-two points more than second placed Brondby.

They even rested some and tested some players towards the end of the season, but still also managed to win the Cup's finale against Brondby with a 3:1 result late in May. As for the friendlies, they lost to Partizan 3:2 at the start, but also drew against Sturm Graz 1:1 and had a goalless draw last Wednesday evening against Russian side Krasnodar.

Defender Peter Ankersen (32/5 last season) and midfielder Rasmus Falk (22/5) won't be here in comparison to last season.

Even though it's first leg only, I don't see this game being a defensive one actually. Copenhagen is a favorite and a very threatening side with great efficiency, while Zilina knows they can't just stay behind the ball, defend and see what happens. Odds are definitely valuable in my eyes for over goals here.

  1. Joey says:

FC Copenhagen are always very hard to break down defensively when they play in Europe. They know they will seal the deal at home, so I wouldn’t expect to many goals here. 0-1 is a probable outcome. Or even 0-0 or 1-1 if Zilina gets lucky.

  2. aniella says:

I suspect this to be a low scoring affair with copenhagen win 1-0 or 2-0

  3. BetMan says:

It should be noted that FC Copenhagen (in short FCK) have sold a number of very important players during the summer window. Out went defenders Augustinsson (left back) and Mattias “Zanka” Jørgensen (central defender and captain) plus striker Andreas Cornelius (who was their top goalscorer). All three were important players and while FCK have brought in quality replacements, they need to get used to the system (a very standard 442) and this can make the team more shaky in the beginning of the season. Also, the sale of Delaney during the winter meant that FCK lost a bit in quality in the midfield. I’d expect few goals here.

  4. Fancy1978 says:

FCK strong enough to score at least 1 goal, and we know what slovak teams playing attacking football with enough poor defence
