Trnava vs Legia
Trnava defeated all the odds to win in the first leg away to Legia with a 2:0 score. It was a complete surprise as not many saw them being reliable nor confident early in the season. Especially when they visited far more reputable club.
Their starting games in the first qualifying round against Zrinski, where quite troubling. We could say that the side from Bosnia actually looked bit better - but Trnava they did improve drastically since then. Especially improvement was obvious in tactical part of the match as the side looked really well with defensive tasks. They did leave the ball possession to the Polish side and made them very vulnerable at the back.
Trnava took the lead in a sixteenth minute via Grendel. However, Legia approached even more openly and was punished for it in the fourth minute of added time in the second part thanks to a goal from Vlasko. Overall, Trnava didn't show many excellent things on the field. Stil, they simply waited for their chances and it wasn't that difficult against not creative Polish side.
As for the domestic league, players of Trnava have started with narrow 1:0 defeat away to Senica in the first round. However, they improved last Saturday evening winning at home over Zlate Moravce 1:0. The only goal was scored back in the 60th minute via Vlasko from a penalty kick. It was more open game than what the final result says. However, the hosts were the ones who had a difficult time breaking the defensive lineup of the guests.
Legia looked really poor in the first leg, allowing the visitors to take precious victory too easy. Their attacks weren't fluid and the side didn't move the ball properly well, while they were terrific poor in the defensive line.
Their defending of counter-attacks was terrible and the result isn't to be surprised in that clash. The coach was explaining that few players were poisoned and barely stood on their feet, while some of the players were very direct and were saying that this is now how Legia should be playing and that all of them need to improve in their areas.
As for the domestic league, it started with a home defeat against Zaglebie 1:3. But the side improved last Saturday evening when they won over Korona Kielce 1:2 away from home. They were back in the scoreline in the first halftime via a goal from Jukic. However, the side played far better in the second part.
Thanks to goals from Maczynski and Kante in the 57th and the 67th minute the players from Warszaw managed to revert the result. This time it was deserved victory since they outplayed the opponent in the second part of the clash.
Midfielder Michal Kucharczyk and forward Jaroslaw Niezgoda are sidelined with injuries with no play in the new season. Defender William Remy (1/0) is out due injury too.
There's no doubt that Legia is a squad with far bigger individual quality. Having in mind that they did improve over the weekend, I still see valuable odds in this one. One way or another, Trnava will be looking to defend their lead here. I'm pretty positive that the Polish side has what it takes to improve here and keep the chances during the match. They have improved their ball movement a bit and should be far more dangerous here.
