Rosenborg vs Celtic

Even though they took the early lead in the sixteenth minute via Meling, Rosenborg did very little from then on and suffered the defeat deservedly. Quality difference was obvious and there's very little to be disappointed about from the Norwegian point of view.

They had some offensive phases at first, but as the time progressed it was less and less possible for them to show some more creativity and concreteness. Virtually, their attack almost didn't exist in the second halftime and the two-goal deficit now seems like very logical but also a bit of a happy end looking at the rival's quality.

Rosenborg was probably already bit lucky in the previous round when they excluded Valur only thanks to a goal in the fourth minute of added time from the penalty kick. Their domestic league is stopped for the moment, with the last match being at home against Tromso more than twenty days ago which they have won with a 2:1 result. After sixteen rounds, they have two points less than first placed Brann.

Striker Samuel Adegbenro (2/1) is out due ankle injury. Midfielder Anders Konradsen (11/4) has a knee problem but anyway didn't perform in July at all.

Despite a poor start and an early goal in their net, players of Celtic reacted well and showed their quality in the next phase of the match last Wednesday evening in front of own crowd. They already probably deserved to revert the scoreline inside the first halftime but had to get satisfied with the equalizer in the 43rd minute via Edouard.

However, the second halftime started in the best possible way as Ntcham scored the goal in the first minute of the repetition. It was much easier for Celtic to play from that moment on, as they outclassed the opponent completely in the continuation. Finally, the result was sealed thanks to the second goal from Edouard in the 75th minute.

Celtic already looked decently well in the previous round against Alashkert, as well as in their recent friendly matches. Improvement in form is obvious and it's expected that the side continues to improve game by game.

Offensive player Leigh Griffiths is still coming from injury and shouldn't be risked here. Central defender Jozo Simunovic serves a red card suspension, while midfielder Nir Bitton remains long-term absentee. Forward Moussa Dembele has a recent hamstring problem and will miss for another week. Defensive Dedryck Boyata has only returned from the holidays, so won't feature. Mikael Lusting still has no match fitness to start the game.

Rosenborg is expected to attack here at some point of the match and see what's happening. There's so much more quality in Celtic's roster and I can't see them being limited in every way in this one. Norwegians are far away from their best form, while the result surely makes the Scottish side to take the second leg as serious as possible.
