Legia vs Sporting by Jimeno
Legia suffered quite heavy defeat in the previous Champions League round when they visited Dortmund, but the result will be remembered for a long time, since the German team took 8:4 victory in one of the most interesting matches so far this season. It was heavily open game from both sides with Legia taking the lead and having decent amount of chances during the match converting it into four goals.
However, their defensive lineup was once again almost to non-existent as the team conceded twenty-four goals so far in these five matches. Despite everything, thanks to a point taken in a home match against Real round earlier, the team will have a chance to continue in Europa League in case they get a victory over Sporting tonight, so we should expect another attacking performance from them. On Friday evening they made a setback drawing at home against Plock 2:2, staying still at fourth position, with seven points less than leading duo from Jagiellonia and Lechia Gdansk.
Legia is set to play in 4-2-3-1 formation with Nikolic as their number nine, but also with Radovic, Odjidja-Ofoe and Guilherme as offensive midfielders. Polish side should be having a clean bill of health ahead of this match, since defender Adam Hlousek and midfielder Guilherme have some problems but should be playing.
Sporting suffered defeat in the previous Champions League game and lost the chances of reaching the knockout phase, even though such chances were anyway less than minimal. They lost tp Real Madrid in front of own fans with a 1:2 result, but needs to be said that the team looked quite brave for the most of the game.
Spanirds took the lead in 28th minute with a goal from Varane, while the home team stood playing with a man less in 64th when Pereira got red carded, but still managed to level up from a penalty kick ten minutes before the end via Silva. Seven minutes later Benzema wrote the final result in actually quite an equal game where the players of Real didn't show much of dominance despite playing with a man more for thirty minutes. With that result, Sporting stood to only three points so far, even though they didn't disappoint in either of their Champions League matches so far.
Visitors from Portugal will be playing in 3-4-3 formation with most likely Markovic, Dost and Ruiz as forwards. Right defender Joao Pereira (7/0) is suspended and with Ezequiel Schelotto (7/0) also injured, guests will need to employ three man defence for this one. Luc Castaignos (forward, 2/0) is also sidelined with injury.
- Legia Warszawa have conceded at least 3 goals in their last 3 matches (UEFA Champions League).
Legia had terrible defense so far in the Champions League, having conceded twenty-four goals in five matches, but their offense did well however, scoring eight in the process. Despite terrible defensive performances, the team still have a chance to reach the third spot, but will need to get a victory over Portuguese side here that has only one victory so far - exactly at home against Legia. I expect this game to be very open and attacking one, since the home team has nothing to lose and can once again approach the game with "all or nothing" philosophy.
