Gladbach vs Mancehster City by Gustav
After two starting defeats in Champions League, Gladbach improved their chances of getting the knockout phase, with a victory over Celtic 2:0 on the road and a draw at home agains the Scottish side, but the team will now need to make a huge surprise and get a victory over Manchester City in order to stay competitive for position, otherwise completely realistic target would be ending at third position and Europa League participation later on.
Their most recent Champions League game was actually a setback, since the German team looked like complete favorites, but failed to get the victory even though they had the lead in 32nd minute via Stindl and looked dominating, but everything changed in 75th minute when Korb got red carded and Dembele leveled the result from the penalty spot a minute later. As for the domestic league, team is without a victory in last six matches, being at terrible thirteenth position with only twelve points earned so far.
Hosts should be playing in 3-4-1-2 formation with Raffael and Hazard as strikers. Right full back Julian Korb (7/0) is suspended after red card received, while injured remains midfielder Patrick Herrmann (6/0). They are also still without Mamadou Doucoure, Marvin Schulz, Josip Drmic, Alvaro Dominguez, but all of them without playing competitive football in the new season.
Manchester City, on the other side, managed to get a 3:1 victory over Barcelona last time out in Champions League and therefore kept the chances of ending at the top spot in the end, but in order to do it, the team will need to get a victory here since any other result would potentially complicate their situation while the team surely can't afford to lose here and get leveled up in points with the Germans.
Even though Messi brought Barcelona into the lead in 24th minute, Citizens looked really better in attack and much more concrete, even though they had less of the ball possession, but still managed to get the victory thanks to great efficiency, via Gundogan twice and de Bruyne. As for the Premier League, City comes from a 2:1 victory on the road against Crystal Palace with two goals from Toure, as they continue to be third at the table with just a point less than leaders from Chelsea.
Citizens should be playing in 4-1-4-1 formation with Aguero as their number nine, plus Sterling, Gungodan, Silva and Bruyne as offensive midfielders. Claudio Bravo is back in the team after missing the previous game through suspension. Yaya Toure returned in the league, but isn't included in their Champions League squad for now. Central defender Vincent Kompany probably won't be risked here, while Fabian Delph and Ilkay Gungodan should both return in the squad here.
- Borussia M.Gladbach have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 3 matches against Man City.
With only one victory in last six official matches at home, Gladbach has no other option but to search for a three pointer here, not only for the sake of Champions League, but also to finally boost their morale with some positive outcome. They are now back to the full strength and should not be underestimated, even though the Citizens remains as a more quality and dangerous side. Goals is what I expect here from both sides.
