Celtic vs Rosenborg
Celtic did a proper job in the first qualifying round when the side firstly outplayed Alashkert 0:3 on the road but also proved their worth in the returning leg as well. Of course that the side already secured progress with the first leg's victory managing to play far more relaxed in the second match.
Their dominance was superior from the first minute, as Dembele scored the opening goal in eight minutes. Even though they stood playing with a man less three minutes later when defender Simunovic got red carded, Scottish side remained better. Dembele scored from a penalty kick in 19th minute, while Forrest tripled up the lead in 35th minute.
Even though they remained better, it was also logical to lower down the tempo since the side played with a man less. In any way, it was more than deserved progress while the side now awaits far more quality side.
Some progress is also obvious in their friendly matches so far, since the team comes from improving performances and victories over Sparta Prague and Shamrock Rovers. In between of two Champions League matches, the side had a friendly at home against Standard Liege winning 4:1 using bit rotated squad.
Midfielder Nir Bitton is out due to a knee injury. Offensive Leigh Griffiths is doubtful due muscle injury but anyway without performance so far. Central defender Jozo Simunovic (2/0) is suspended now for this one.
Rosenborg had a more difficult opponent for their standards in the first qualifying round, as the side lost the first leg away from home with narrow 1:0 result. They were heavy favorites in the second leg, but the match overall was very interesting and somehow decided by the referee.
Norwegians were far better and superior in the first halftime, however, goals never came. The second part was pretty much equal, however, hosts took the lead in the 55th minute from a penalty kick taken by Bendtner, while Trondsen doubled up the lead in the 72nd minute. It made visitors from Iceland to play far more open, as they reduced the deficit via Sigurdsson in the 85th minute from a penalty kick.
Just when everyone thought away goal rule will decide, there was another penalty in the fourth minute of additional time which was converted again via Bendtner. As for the domestic league, Rosenborg is having three consecutive victories prior to the start of Champions League qualifiers. They are in the second position with two points less than leaders from Brann and four points more than third-placed Molde.
The situation at Rosenborg is not good at all. They travel to Glasgow this week after the shock of their long-serving manager's sacking, a reported player revolt, and an uncertain future.
Midfielder Anders Konradsen (11/4) is having a knee problem and shouldn't participate. Similar to forward Samuel Adegbenro (2/1) who is having an ankle injury.
Celtic seems to be playing at a far better level at the moment and with much more intensity and better ball movement. They are scoring goals easier and should record a quite convincing victory here against visitors who were almost already excluded by the champions from Iceland last week.
