Lyon vs Man City (By: Stanioooo)
Lyon will host Man. City in the 5th round of CL at Groupama Stadium.
What's the situation in group F:
1.Man City- 9 points 2.Lyon- 6 points 3.Hoffenheim- 3 points 4.Shakhtar Donetsk- 2 points.
It's a match between the leaders City and Lyon. They are the main favourites to progress and that'will be logical outcome, when we know Hoffenheim is a team without any experience in CL, while Shakhtar are not in their best form+some of the Brazilian leaders in the club were injured in most of the matches. When you are also 0:9 against City in both games, your place is not in the next round for sure. I have the feeling Donetsk will also miss even the EL place, but we will see. Now let's concetrate on this match between Lyon and City.
Their first match in the group led to the only mistake of Man City when the team lost at home against Lyon with 1:2. Cornet and Fekir were the goalscorers in the 1st half, while Bernardo Silva returned one in the 2nd, but it was not enough for taking a point. It happened in the beginning of the season, when in my eyes City were still not adapted bery well to play without De Bruyne. They were something like addicted to his creativeness and his miss was a little bit frustrating for the other in the club. Aguero also didn't start in that game, playing with Jesus as a main forward and City's performance was way much under their normal level. What happened after that- 3 wins for City with 11:1 goal difference against Hoffenheim and Shakhtar and a win against Lyon will book their place in the next round for sure as leaders.
City's form right now is more than superb. With Pep Guardiola as a coach we can't expect something different. I said so many times that although I am not Barca fan, Guardiola is the best coach in the world for me. His style and way of coaching is just flawless. He earned so many achievements wherever he was as a coach. OK, I still don't believe City have real chances to lift the CL trophy even with him ahead, because they just don't have the best squad amongst Europe teams. But it's absolutely enough to take another Premier League trophy and maybe something like 1/4 or 1/2 final in CL, it depends on the draw. Still they don't have a huge lead ahead of Liverpool- only two points and these two clubs are the only ones in PL without a single loss. It looks like the battle for the trophy will be between them, but Man City looks better till the start of the season for me. Only one loss against Lyon and two draws in Premier League against Wolves and Liverpool as guests. All of the other matches finished with City wins.
On the other side are Lyon. They are 2nd in France, which is not surprising, when you have PSG in your league. PSG are still with max points, but we can easily expect that they will start dropping points, because Neymar and Mbappe are out for a while with injuries. I don't think any of the other clubs in France think about the title, everything looks deciced even in the end of November in Ligue 1- the 2nd place Lyon are 15 points behind PSG. Then the teams from 2nd to 7th place are in a really close gap. Lyon have the players to be amongst the best in France, but we have to accept that they have a big with with the CL draw. To face in the right time City, when they were still not in form, Shakhtar to be with important injured players and not in best form for sure, while the last team to be without any CL experience..They know there are much harder groups that their ones and that's the reason to have real possibility to continue to the next round of this tournament. I am sure they will try to show their best at home against City, but we saw what happened when they faced the only team in France(PSG), which is from the same level as City- 5:0 loss. OK, it was in Paris as visitors, but we can imagine what is going to happen when they will meet very ambitious team like City, hungry for revenge and three points.
Lyon will be without Jordan Ferri, Leo Dubois and Amine Gouiri, while Fekir is doubtful, but still is expected to play, because he is really important for the team. City will be without the expected ones- Bravo, Mendy, Mangala, De Bruyne and Bernardo(doubtful).
Both teams are much better in attack than in defense. It's obvious Pep strenghtened the defense this season, but still they make mistakes. In the last match against West Ham, Michail Antonio made two big misses one-on-one against Ederson, so it's more than possible Lyon to score with players like Dembele, Depay, Aouar and Fekir. City will be also pretty motivated for the three points and revenge, so at least three goals are expected here. Lyon are always involved in matches with a bunch of goals in both nets, especially in CL, while City look unstoppable in attack right now. You can try with BTTS+over 2.5 goals if you want to play a little bit safer, but I am going with City win and BTTS. If it doesn't happen something like a red card for City, the chances of the visitors to take the max points here are huge.
