Celta Vigo vs Espanyol by Jimeno
After three consecutive victories in Primera, over Levante and Real Sociedad away from home and against Betis in front of own fans, players of Celta didn't manage to get another positive result and have suffered a narrow 2:1 loss away from home against Alaves last Saturday evening.
Their hosts have entered the game better, have scored the opening goal in fourth minute via Alfonso, while Celta reacted straight away, but the home side doubled up the lead in eighteenth minute via El Haddadi against the flow of the match.
Team from Vigo continued being better, but lacked more pressure in order to be more threatening just managing to reduce the deficit in additional time in the second halftime with a goal from Aspas. Overall, there's no doubt that they have deserved more, but the side didn't show the same final touch as in previous matches and got punished for it. Celta is now at quite high eight position at the table, having four points less than Europa League placed Eibar, something that surely is their goal for this season.
Hosts are set to play in a version of 4-4-2 formation with Aspas and Gomez as forwards. Home team should have no injury concerns for this one and are set to field their best starting XI.
Espanyol, on the other side, managed to get a huge surprise in a local derby game against Barcelona in front of own fans grabbing a point in a 1:1 very unexpected draw. Of course that Barcelona had much more of the ball possession, however weren't able to create as much as usually good chances.
First halftime was especially uninteresting, while the hosts managed to take the lead in second via Moreno in 66thg minute, while the guests increased the tempo since then, leveling up in 82nd minute via Pique, however without real extra push to completely revert the scoreline in last ten minutes.
It was fourth consecutive game in LaLiga without a victory for Espanyol, but surely more than positive outcome this time, as the team now stands at fifteenth position with seven points more than relegating Las Palmas and in case they continue in similar manner, they should have an ending of the season without much worries.
Visitors are set to play in 4-2-3-1 formation with Moreno as central striker, plus Baptistao, Darder and Jurado as offensive midfielders. Midfielder Esteban Granero (14/0) misses due suspension, while doubtful are forward Pablo Piatti (17/1) and defender Didac Vila (5/0).
- Celta Vigo are undefeated in their last 7 home matches against Espanyol.
After many ups and downs, Celta does look better in previous weeks and if they keep up the same dedication, they should be able to get the European exit this season too. Against quite unimpressive Espanyol (especially away from home), they should be able to score a three pointer easy or difficult.
