Cagliari vs Sassuolo by Enzo
Friendly matches of Cagliari didn't promise much during the preparation period and the side didn't started that well - recording two defeats at the start, but both matches were on the road plus against very difficult opponents - Juventus and AC Milan. However, improvement came after the international break, as the side managed to record two victories in a row now.
Firstly they won over Crotone narrowly 1:0 at home, while they also managed to pull out all three points away from home against Spal last Sunday evening with a 2:0 result once again without conceding a goal. They didn't look as much better side overall, however stood very well on the field, did what was needed and looked like more experienced team. They took the lead in 17th minute via Barella, while Joao Pedro sealed the victory in 68th minute with the visitors standing well in the defense till the end.
Goalkeeper Rafael is sidelined with injury, while defender Gregory van der Wiel and forward Federico Melchiorri are both doubtful coming from injuries and probably will not be playing here.
Sassuolo had a great debuting season two years ago, while the previous one was a mediocre with the team ending at 12th position, while it looks like they might have really challenging situation in relegation battle in case they don't improve soon. They had mostly victories in preparation period, but have played against weaker sides, while the start of Serie A isn't promising one for now.
The team took a point in a home match against Genoa in a goalless draw in season opener, with the guests being slightly better, while they suffered defeats in next three matches: away to Torino and Atalanta and in most recent one, in front of own fans against Juventus last Saturday afternoon. It was a game where they couldn't do much, with the players of Juventus standing way better on the field, looked superior and much more experienced. Dybala scored all three goals for Juventus, while the hosts only managed to reduce the deficit temporarily via Politano in 51st minute.
Forward Domenico Berardi (3/0) is doubtful with a foot problem, while injured remains defender Christian Dell'Orco who anyway didn't perform so far.
- Cagliari have scored at least 2 goals in their last 3 home matches against Sassuolo.
After a bit slippery start for Cagliari, they now have bounced back with two consecutive victories and surely want to keep up the momentum. Visitors didn't leave impression of being capable of many positive things this season and this one should be very tricky for them. Easy or difficult, players of Cagliari should be able to overcome the opponent and get third consecutive victory.
