Brighton vs Newacstle by Shibby
Barclays Premiership for me in a game that will be played on Sunday 24th September 2017. The game will be played at The American Express Community Stadium and will kick off at 16:00.
The game will be between two promoted clubs, Brighton and Newcastle United. The hosts for the game are Brighton, they currently lie in 16th in the table and seem to be struggling to perform to the level they did last season in the Championship. Their stats for this season are won 1, drawn 1 and lost 3 from their first 5 league games.
I did watch Brighton a lot last year and I thought they were good, however, this season, the players they have brought in don't seem to be good enough for this level in my opinion. I think that Brighton will struggle this season. I think manager Chris Hughton should have gone for purchases from current Premiership players, players who are not currently getting a game at their current clubs, players like Defoe they should have gone for, players who are a little older but have experience in this difficult league.
Brighton head into the game on the back of two defeats, both to Eddie Howe's Bournemouth. A league game ended 2-1 in favour of the Cherries even though Brighton took the lead through Solly March. Jordan Ibe came on and seemed to change the game with 2 assists. Another game between the two clubs just 4 days later in the cup saw Bournemouth progress after extra time 1-0, a 99th minute Josh King goal was enough to seem them get through to the next round. Brighton played a strong XI while Bournemouth made a few changes.
Brighton did win their last home game vs West Brom 3-1, Pascal Gross was great in this game and needs to perform at this level every week. He scored 2 goals and got an assist for Hemeds goal.
The visitors for the day are also newly promoted Newcastle United. They seem to have started life back in the Premier League better than their opponents. Newcastle manager Rafa Benetez has guided his team into 4th in the table (before the 15:00 kick offs on Sat). They have won 3 and lost 2 of their first 5 games and head into the game tomorrow in confidence, they have won their last 3 league games. These games were against West Ham at home which ended 3-0 to the Toon, then they beat Swansea away 1-0 and then another tough side was beat in Stoke, this game ended 2-1 to Newcastle.
Newcastle do have better quality players than Brighton in my opinion. However, they are struggling with goals of late, they seem to be relying on the defenders to come up with the goals :) I think if Gayle can bag a goal tomorrow his confidence will be lifted, this is what they need, a striker in form. It says a lot when their top scorer is captain Lascelles.
I think Newcastle will have a decent season depending on who they bring into the squad in Jan. They have an experienced manager with Rafa and the stadium and fans are premier league quality.
I think this will be a tough game, however, I expect Newcastle to get a result here. I'll be backing Newcastle United + 0.25 AH at a good price of 1.71 with BetVictor. Good Luck all.
