Birmingham City vs Leeds United by Shibby
Championship action for me on a Friday night, a game that will be played at St Andrews, Birmingham. The game will kick off at 19:45 UK time.
The hosts head into the game tomorrow night on the back of their first win for a while, they beat local rivals Wolves away from home on the 24th Feb. 2 first half goals goals Birmingham a comfortable lead, a lead which allowed them to relax a little and play the football we know they are capable of when on form. It was a typical derby game which saw 6 yellow cards and a red for Birmingham defender Robinson. This was in the 53rd minute too, however, Birmingham held on for 3 points.
Prior to this win, Birmingham lost 3 league games in a row, they were games against QPR, Preston and Sheffield Wednesday. They just haven't been the solid team they once were this year. Many thought that under Zola they would have flourished and been play off contenders, however, they find themselves in 14th in the table, 15 points behind the play off places and 10 points above the drop. So to me Birmingham have little to play for, I know they won't stand a chance to get into a play off place, they will also be very unlucky to be related as there are so many bad teams below them.
The visitors for the game are Yorkshire outfit, Leeds United. Gary Monk has done a fantastic job at Leeds in my opinion and I believe he will take the club back to the Premier League where a club that size belongs. The main success at Leeds this season (other than Monk) has been striker Chris Wood. He's been in great form and I believe he has 20 league goals to his name this season, which is a great return. The issue with Leeds is that if he does get injured, I don't believe they have anyone good enough to fill his boots, if they can keep Wood fit until the end of the season I believe they have a great chance of going up.
Leeds are unbeaten in their last 3 league games, winning 2 and drawing the other. These games were against Bristol City, Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday. I watched the game vs Sheff Wed, Leeds didn't look great, however, they held on for a massive 3 points and I think confidence wise this will have done them the world of good.
Leeds currently lie in 4th in the table, 10 points behind Brighton and 12 points behind league leaders, Newcastle. I think there are worse teams in the play off places other than Leeds. I think realistically they should be safe now, however, you never know. The only two teams that could sneak in there is Fulham or Norwich, however, it will be tough. The team that could drop out has to be Reading. They haven't had an amazing season in terms of performances, however, they seem to grind the results out and secure 3 points!
For me I think Leeds will have a lot more to play for than Birmingham, therefore, I think Leeds will win, however, with Birmingham having a good home record recently, I'll protect the draw with Leeds + 0 AH at a price of 1.82 with BetVictor. Good luck all.
