Bilbao vs Celta by Isaiah
In the last game before tonight, players of Bilbao were found early back in the scoreline from a goal that shouldn't have been counted in sixteenth minute, but also fail to show any kind of reaction, to see the team conceding second one in 53rd and responding only twenty minutes later with a goal from San Jose for the final 1:2 defeat at home against Elche.
It was surely very disappointing result, as the team looked like they might be in fine form before the game, after defeating Celta 4:2 on the road in the Copa del Rey first leg. Now, the team completed three consecutive defeats in the Primera after this result and are counting five consecutive matches without a victory having only one draw. Naturally, the team fell to 13th position at the standings and are now surely be much more worried about their placement there than for this game where they already have two goals advantage. Coach Valverde said that the team will go for the victory here, trying to revert the atmosphere around the club. He won't be able to count at central defender Mikel San Jose (10/2) who got injured in previous game, while highly questionable is also participation of right back Andoni Iraole (10/0). Second choice goalkeeper Iago Herrerin (no participation so far in Primera, 3 matches in Copa del Rey) will for sure start the game.
In the last game before tonight's one, Celta was actually quite better than their opponents from Valencia, but it simply wasn't their day for the victory. They missed a penalty kick in 27th minute, were back in the scoreline in 43rd minute, but reacted more than well in the repetition to equalize in 61st minute with a goal from Orellana, while the same player missed the penalty kick previously in the first halftime.
Till the rest of the game hosts from Vigo tried to press for the second goal, but as it was said, it simply wasn't their day. However, there is no doubt that the team played a game on a high level after many negative results and that they might be back into their good form in case they continue with such performances. With this result, team broke a streak of six defeats, but are still with no victory in last seven matches in Primera, being now down the table at ninth position for now. Right back Hugo Mallo (15/0) is injured and will be out for new two months as well, while central defender David Costas (2/0) won't be able to play due suspension. Their striker Joaquin Larrivey (16/7) is also out, as he is serving fourth and final game day suspension.
Athletic Bilbao has already almost secured the qualification and can take this game a bit more lightly, trying to give some playing time to fringe players. Celta, on the other side, seems to be close to returning to their good form after a good performance over Valencia and this can easily turn out to be their turning point in bouncing back to good form.
