Basel vs Wolfsburg by 20Legend
Basel did a decent game against Monaco (0-1) in their last game, but their finishing was not good enough in order to challenge them. Basel did pose a very strong team with both of their recent signings Mohamed Elyounoussi (from Molde) and Seydou Doumbia (on loan from Roma) in their starting lineup. However, it was not a surprise that Monaco won the game when looking at the possession of the ball. Basel was only aiming for counter attacks or exploit personal mistakes that were made from Monaco. Although they did not have much of the ball, Basel got invited into the game from the 70th minute, due to lack of concentration from Monaco who changed ten players at halftime. The problem was only the lack of finishing when the chances occurred which made a loss only fair in the end.
Wolfsburg comes from a tough loss against Celtic (2-1) in their last friendly three days ago. It was only their second game in this preseason after they beat PSV on a penalty shootout after getting 1-1 in regular time. The match reports say that Wolfsburg played their best half during the first 45 minutes and especially offensively. They took the lead after 16 minutes, but it suddenly was equal five minutes later.
Wolfsburg defensive performance was not ideal as lack of communication lead to both goals as well. It was also clear that the team was not in-form which is naturally at this stage of the preseason. However, it was not only poor performances to spot as quality could be spotted in between the bad decisions. They used a strong lineup with offensive names like Dost and Didavi from the start.
With another two offensive teams facing each other at this stage in preseason, I expect a game with high intensity here. Both teams showed that they are capable of getting into good chances in their last game, but both teams have some way to go before a new season begins. The whole point of these matches is to get better in each game and both teams should have making more out of their chances as a target for this match. I expect goals in both halves, but with the odds being too low on over 2.5 goals in this game, I believe over 1.5 goals at halftime to be more valuable.
