Augsburg vs Dortmund by Gustav
Augsburg actually comes from a positive outcome last weekend, as the team took a point away to Gladbach in a 1:1 result previous Saturday evening. Even though their opponents had much more of the ball possession and chances created, they have every reason to be unhappy since the team conceded equalizer during the additional time.
Visitors took the lead first, in 57th minute via Finnbogasson, while the equalizer came in fourth minute of additional time via Hahn. Even though that goal came late, it was more than deserved since the players of Gladbach looked more superior overall. After this point taken, Augsburg is two points above the play-out placed Hambuerger SV and a positive outcome is a must thing for them here, since they travel to Hoffenheim in the last round and can't hope for much.
Hosts should be set playing in 4-2-3-1 formation, with Finnbogason as central striker, but also with Max, Altintop and Schmid as offensive midfielders. Midfielders Jan Moravek (13/0) and Ja-Cheol Koo (23/2) are injured. Manager Manuel Baum has no reason to change much.
Dortmund, on the other side, comes from a very imporant victory last weekedn as the team managed to get a 2:1 victory over Hoffenheim and once again have re-claimed the third position. This means that the team is now sitting at the position that will be leading directly to Champions League group stage and they remain in a must win situation in order to avoid further complications and earlier start of the season.
Even though they got the three pointer, it must be said that the players of Hoffenheim actually did more on the field and had more of the ball possession, probably since the home team was satisfied early into the game - taking the lead already in fourth minute via Reus, while they even missed the penalty during the first halftime, while Aubameyang doubled up against the flow in 82nd minute, with visitors reducing four minutes later via Kramaric from the penalty kick.
Visitors should be playing in some version of 4-1-4-1 formation, with Aubameyang as central striker, but also with Demebele, Kagawa, Guerreiro and Reus as offensive midfielders. Central defender Marc Barta (18/0) remains doubtful and might not be risked, while suspended is midfielder Gonzalo Castro (27/3). Injured are offensive Mario Gotze (11/1), Andre Schurrle (15/2) and midfielder Nuri Sahin (4/0).
- Borussia Dortmund have scored at least 2 goals in their last 5 away matches against Augsburg.
With both teams having something to play for here, I see the match being as open as possible. Augsburg needs a three pointer badly since they stand just two points above the relegation play-off, while Dortmund reclaimed the third position and need to secure themselves into the group stage of Champions League. Four goals shouldn't be much of a task for such two sides.
