Atletico Madrid vs Vallecano by Neuro
It could be said that Atletico Madrid actually got quite positive result in the first leg of 1/4 of Copa del Rey, when the team visited Barcelona and walked away only with a narrow 1:0 loss. Their hosts were a bit more dominant, especially pressing them in the last quarter of the match, finally getting the deserved victory with a goal from Messi in 85th minute of the match.
Logically, Atletico tried with a bit more defensive formation and could feel satisfied with the result, as they have a chance to overcome the opponent in the returning leg in front of their fans. As for Primera, team comes from a 2:0 home victory over Granada last weekend, with goals being scored near the end of the each halves, via Mandzukic and Garcia. Overall, it wasn't impressive performance from them as they did very little in attack, so the players will surely try to improve things and show more dominant display this time - of course, searching for all three points in order to maintain four points distance from first placed Real Madrid and keep their Champions League spot. Central defender Diego Godin (25/4) will have to sit out this match due to too many yellow cards accumulated. Left defender Cristian Ansaldi (10/0) remains sidelined with injury, same as offensive midfielder Cani (13/1). Central midfielder Tiago (15/3) struggles to recover on time with a knock so his participation is questionable. Fernando Torres probably won't start the match here after he was given a start against Barcelona couple of days ago, so Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann should be their offensive duo.
Rayo Vallecano, on the other side, pulled out an important narrow 1:0 victory on the road against Real Sociedad few days ago, also in quarter-finals of Copa del Rey. Both teams generaly played a passive game, with the visitors being more content with that role and manage to punish the hosts with a goal in 83rd minute via Manucho. Certainly, the hosts were those who simply had to attack more and fight for their victory in the first leg.
This way, Rayo now has a great chance to progress further to the semi-finals and maybe even hope for a Europa League ticket via Cup competition. As for Primera, they were defeated surprisingly at home against Cordoba with a 0:1 result, showing once again that the team isn't playing well when they are favorites and under pressure. Still, they are safely placed at middle of the table having seven points more than relegating worries sides, but also far away from any European ticket competition, having twelve points less than sixth placed Villarreal. Striker Leo Baptistao (16/7) is still struggling with an injury, but even if he gets fit till the starting whistle, it's hard too see coach benching in-form Manucho for this game. Forward Joaquin Alvarez Quini is sidelined with suspension. Only injured absentee remains substitute goalkeeper David Cobeno (1/0).
Atletico is playing very offensive football in front of their fans and even though Rayo Vallecano is doing reasonably well for now, it will be really hard to see them staying competitive here for the whole game. Plenty of attacking quality in the home side should be enough to see them winning comfortable this one without any problems near the end of the game.
