Atletico Madrid vs Sociedad by Jimeno
Atletico Madrid didn't inspire with great confidence regarding their results in previous couple of matches before visiting Real last Saturday evening, but the team managed to surprise many and walk away with a three pointer following narrow 1:0 victory. Naturally, players of Real Madrid had much more of the ball possession, but didn't actually managed to be very concrete as the visitors used their time with the ball to feet in much better way.
They even somehow managed to have more concrete situations in front of opponents goal, mostly trying to harm them via counter attacks. Only goal was scored in 53rd minute via Griezmann, while the hosts maintained with ball possession, but without serious response till the end of the match. Atletico now has four points more than Real and do look like sure second placed team, however will surely try to chase leaders from Barcelona, even though they have eight points less than their rival. Atletico Madrid continues to miss central defender Stefan Savic (8/0) and midfielder Tiago (13/1). Offensive midfielder Yannick Carrasco is doubtful, but with chances to play. They are set to play in their usual 4-4-2 formation with Griezmann and Torres as strikers. Of course, no big changes are expected after their victory over Real Madrid on Saturday eve.
Real Sociedad broke their streak of four consecutive victories, over Betis, Espanyol, Granada and Athletic Bilbao, with a 1:1 draw at home against Malaga. Having in mind how the game have had developed, the team can be satisfied with a point taken since they managed to level up the result in last ten minutes of the match.
They had more ball possession, but the team didn't remind of themselves from previous matches, being unable to move the ball more fluid and concrete and were back in the scoreline in 56th minute with a goal from Cop. They increased the pressure from that point on and still managed to deservedly equalize nine minutes before the full time whistle via Agirretxe. Despite a nice run, they are still outside of European positions, being currently four points below seventh placed Athletic Bilbao. Visitors will be missing important suspended central defender Inigo Martinez (23/1). Injured are offensive midfielder Sergio Canales (16/0) and right back Carlos Martinez (8/0) are injured. Doubtful for this game are: forward Imanol Agirretxe, defensive midfielder Markel Bergara and midfielder David Zurutuza. On the bright side, Aritz Elustondo, Asier Illarramendi and Jonathas all return from bans and should be starting here. Visitors should continue in 4-3-3 formation with Oyarzabal, Vela and Jonathas as forwards.
Atletico is coming from a huge victory, are without conceded goal in last four matches in all competitions and everything points out to their victory here. Sociedad is doing well at the moment as well, but this game should simply be too much for them.
