Atalanta vs Udinese by Enzo
Even though they came on a run of six consecutive victories in Serie A and being undefeated in last ten competitive matches, Atalanta couldn't do much more in their 3:1 defeat away to Juventus last Friday evening. Their opponents were simply much more serious and dominant from the first minute, managing to take the two goals lead already inside first twenty minutes with goals from Rugani and Alex Sandro.
It was a bit easier game for Atalanta in the second half since the hosts lowered down the tempo, but still increased the lead via Mandzukic, while Atalanta looked more attacking in last twenty minutes and it paid off to them, with a goal from Freuler. Aftert his defeat, Atalanta remained sharing fourth position, but now with two more teams, Napolia and Lazio and need a three pointer here seriously, in order to get back to positive ways and restore atmosphere, but also to remain within the teams chasing Europe.
Atalanta should be playing in 3-5-2 formation with Petagna and Gomez as strikers. Andrea Gagliardini has served his suspension and returns to play here from the start. Goalkeeper Etrit Berisha (10/0) is injured, as well as defensive Abdoulay Konko (7/0) and forward Alberto Paloschi (6/0).
Udinese, on the other side, managed to get a victory last weekend with a narrow 1:0 home three pointer over Bologna, after a run of four negative results, two draws and two defeats. However, it needs to be said that the game wasn't that interesting even though the hosts were a bit more active, but deciding factor happened in 68th minute when the visiting side stood playing with a man less.
Udinese increased pressure from that moment on and dominated the game completely, deserving the victory that came only in third minute of additional time with a goal from Danilo. Thanks to this three pointer, Udinese remained well above the relegation zone, now having eighteen points out of fifteen matches, which is nine points more than relegating placed Crotona and having a game less played.
Visitors from Udine are set to play in their usual 4-3-3 formation with Thereau and Paul on the wings, plus Zapata as central striker. Visitors have a clean bill of health, with exception of midfielders Ewandro and Francesco Lodi who are long term absentees.
- Atalanta have won their last 4 home matches (Serie A).
Atalanta's great run came to an end last weekend as the team visited Juventus, but the hosts shouldn't be too downhearted with the loss against a team that is the most superior in the league for years now. I expect them to bounce back with another victory here against a side that isn't impressive away from home for years now. Easy or hard, hosts should reach the victory.
