Atalanta vs Sassuolo by Enzo
After a very difficult defeat and seven goals conceded away from home against Inter, Atalanta reacted like nothing happened and improved further on, winning twice in a row with more than decent style. Firstly they won over Pescara 3:0 at home, but in the most recent game Atalanta crushed Genoa away from home with a 5:0 victory.
It was really impressive performance from them, since the side entered the game strongly, taking the lead in 25th via Conti and doubling up via penalty kick taken by Gomez in 45th minute. Players of Atalanta had more of the ball possession in the second halftime, but Genoa tried to react as well - without much of real chances - while it was even worse for them once they stood playing with a man less from 61st moment on when Pinilla got red carded. Gomez scored twice more, while Caldara added one for eighteenth victory of the season for team from Bergamo. The side continues to be at fifth position, having just six less than Champions League placed Napoli and therefore remain in a must win situation.
Midfielder Franck Kessie (24/6) should be suspended for this one with Alberto Grassi probably taking his place, while goalkeeper Etrit Berisha recovered well and should be between the posts.
Sassuolo didn't look that poor last weekend when the team welcomed Lazio and suffered 1:2 defeat on the Saturday evening. They even took the lead in 26th minute from a penalty kick taken by Berardi, but couldn't hold up onto the lead in the second halftime.
Overall, the game was pretty balanced one, but players of Lazio looked more decisive and converted their chances into victory with goals from Immobile and an own goal from Sassuolo's goalkeeper, in a game that could have easily gone differently on some other day. This was third consecutive defeat for Sassuolo, as they remain without a victory in last five Serie A matches. The side remains in the second part of the table, being currently at fifteenth position with fourteen points more than relegating worried Crotone - more than enough in order to feel secure regarding Serie A status.
MIdfielders Davide Biondini (15/0) and Francesco Magnanelli (13/0) remain to be injured, same as right ack Marcello Gazzola (15/0).
- Atalanta have kept a clean sheet in their last 5 home matches (Serie A).
Sassuolo might not be as bad as their rankings show, but the team still lacks plenty of stability in their defense and performances. Atalanta have showed so much more during the season and everything but their easy victory will be a surprise here.
