Atalanta vs Fiorentina by Enzo
Atalanta is on a great run and form this year, but everyone was surprised with their victory last weekend as the team won 2:0 on the road against one of the strongest sides in Italy - Napoli. It was their fourth consecutive victory in Serie A, as the team not only impresses and looks strong, but now are even into the race for Champions League positions as they have only three points less than third placed Napoli and naturally need to get the victory here.
A bit needless to say, but players of Napoli had much more of the ball possession last weekend, but the guests were the ones who were way more concrete in their chances. Hosts had their portion of chances too, but team from Bergamo looked deadly serious with their chances, taking the lead in 28th minute via Caldara and netting second in 70th via the same player, even though they have played with a man less since 67th minute.
Atalanta should be playing in 3-5-2 formation with Petagna and Gomez set as forwards. Central midfielder Franck Kessie (21/6) is suspended for this one and should be their only absentee. Forward Aleksandar Pesic (6/0) and defender Boukary Drame (10/0) should be ready for the match despite some calf problems.
Fiorentina, on the other side, didn't manage to bounce back last weekend after their defeats firstly in Serie A against Milan on the road, but also with a defeat in front of own fans against Gladbach 4:2 in Europa League, as the side took only a point in a home match against Torino in a 2:2 draw last Monday evening.
However, things have started in the best possible way since Saponara opened the lead in eight minute and Kalinic doubled it up in 38th. However as many times this season, players of Viola completely blocked in the second halftime and Torino reached the equalizer via Belotti and Ljjaic missing some chances as well including a penalty kick. Viola is now at eight place, nine points behind Europa League placed Lazio and it will be hard for them to get back into that battle.
Visitors from Florenz are set to play in 3-4-2-1 formation using Kalinic as their central striker, but also with Valero and Bernardeschi as offensive midfielders. Offensive midfielder Riccardo Saponara (3/1) has picked up a suspension last time out and won't be playing here. Goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski (no performance anyway) and midfielder Josip Ilicic (20/4) should recover on time.
- There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Fiorentina's last 10 games (Serie A).
- Atalanta have won 8 of their last 9 home matches (Serie A).
Atalanta is really doing more than well with five consecutive victories but also with a morale boosting three pointer away from home against Napoli. I see home team being somehow more motivated here, but also being in a better form. Goals are expected as well, especially since Viola can not be underestimated.
