Angers vs Monaco by Lucien
Angers could do better last weekend when the team suffered 2:1 defeat away from home against Nantes on Sunday evening, without being very threatening during the match. Actually neither of the sides had great chances to score, but the hosts were more concrete with two goals scored at the start of the second halftime.
Nakoulma scored both for their lead, while the guests only reduced the deficit in 55th via Diedhiou, without real chances of leveling up the result, they even stood playing with a man less towards the end when Cissokho got excluded. Angers is now at 12th position, having eleven points more than relegating worried sides and can feel pretty safe. On Wednesday evening they made a small surprise and won over Bordeaux in Cup competition, progressing further to the semi-finals where they will play against Guingamp and have a great chance to secure the Europa League exit.
Hosts will be playing in 4-3-3 formation using Ekambi, Diedhiou and Bamba as forwards. Right back Issa Cissokho (8/0) is suspended for this one, while injured remain offensive midfielder Billy Ketkeophomphone (5/1), left back Yoann Andreu (16/0) and midfielder Jamel Saihi (5/0). Doubtful is right back Abdoulaye Bamba (7/0).
Monaco, on the other side, didn't play Ligue 1 game last weekend, as they had the finals of Coupe de la Ligue competition where they were crushed by PSG 1:4, without being very competitive against obviously more concrete side. Parisians took the victory easily, thanks to goals from Draxler, Di Maria and two from Cavani.
Lemar only managed to level up temporarily during the middle of the first halftime, while their players actually did remind of their good old form. On Tuesday evening the side won over Lille 2:1 in quarter-finals of Coupe de France and will be playing against PSG in the semies. Hosts used rotated squad, but still deserved the victory taken with two goals from Germain. As for the league, they are three points above PSG and remain in a must win situation here.
Visitors are set to play in their usual 4-4-2 formation, using Mbappe and Germain as strikers. Offensive midfielder Boschilia (11/6) remains injured, same as offensive Guido Carrillo (17/7). Participation of striker Falcao is doubtful. After playing with rotated squad in Coupe de France, visitors should be here with the strongest starting lineup.
- Angers have seen over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 matches against Monaco.
Angers were quite an opponent so far in the season and I expect them to be threatening here as well, however after their exertions in Coupe de France and lack of fitness, I expect Monaco to prevail here with quite a few goals in the home side's net.
