Aalesund vs Rosenborg by 20Legend
Aalesund is in a nightmare of a situation in a moment as they are in 14th place after 15 games. 3-3-9 has given just 12 points and it is only a slightly better goal difference than Valerenga that leaves them right above the relegation zone. 14th place is not a great position either as it only gives qualification in order to stay next season. 18:26 on goal difference means that the team has scored a decent amount of goals, but it is their defensive problems that have given them their current position. They come from two straight losses after the summer break against 3rd placed Stromsgodset (4-2) and 2nd placed Odd (4-1). These were two of the most difficult away games all season, but the game against Stromsgodset gave the players hope for the future.
Aalesund was wise in order of planning their attacks and being cynical at the back. It gave results as they kept the score 2-2 for a long time until they lost their concentration in the last 20 minutes. The game against Odd was a whole different story however, as they was outplayed completely. The players did not run enough which gave the opponent time to play their usual type of football. Aalesund must be able to run more than Rosenborg tonight if they are going to get something out of this meeting. It is therefore a blow for the team that their midfielder Bjorn Helge Riise (14/0) is out with a suspension. He is the motor in this team and his capacity will be truly missed.
Rosenborg is the best team in Norway without a doubt at the moment and the table does not lie. However, with both domestic league and cup in addition to Champions League qualification, it will be a lot of matches for the team going forward. 2nd placed Odd is only three points behind them on the table which means that no match can be taken easily as it could invite Odd even closer. Rosenborg showed beautiful attacking football last weekend when 9th placed Sarpsborg 08 (5-2) paid them a visit. The home team lead 1-0, but suddenly slipped up on the concentration and got punished with two conceding’s that made the score 1-2 early in the second half. However, Rosenborg woke up and responded perfectly with two quick goals in the following five minutes that gave them 3-2. The game continued being dominated by the home team and two goals in stoppage time sealed their 11th win this season.
Rosenborg was also favorites when Norrkoping came to Lerkendal last Wednesday. The first half was boring to watch, but Rosenborg controlled the game without creating the biggest of chances. The second half was a totally different story with Rosenborg going out with a huge pressure. It gave immediate results with 3-0 inside the first 20 minutes and Norrkoping was paralyzed completely. However, the Swedes made some excitement before the second leg next Wednesday, when they headed in a goal after 70 minutes. Rosenborg then controlled the rest of the game and should have score at least once more. However, the club showed that they are the better team, but also conceded an unnecessary goal that gives Norrkoping some hope after all. The 1st keeper Andre Hansen (14 games) is injured for 8-10 weeks, which has made 2nd keeper Pavel Londak (2 games) their current option.
With Rosenborg experiencing a current tight schedule, it naturally gives room for rotation in certain games. Their coach Kare Ingebrigtsen has taken out a normal squad, but there are strong rumors about resting several key players here before the second leg against Norrkoping is coming up next week. Winger Pal Andre Helland (8/3), midfielder Fredrik Midtsjo (14/2), striker Christian Gytkjaer (14/7) together with both of their regular center backs Tore Reginiussen (12/1) and Holmar Orn Eyjolfsson (14/1) might be on the bench here. Aalesund is missing an important player with Riise being suspended, but they are in a desperate need of points.
Rosenborg’s decision of possibly resting several key players could be a chance to take, as points lost tonight could invite Odd all the way up if they win tomorrow. Aalesund must be patient and wise when attacking, but they should also get their chances if they can exploit Rosenborg’s many alterations. Aalesund have been able to score in every home game so far this season, and chances will occur tonight as well with Rosenborg already having their minds set on Norrkoping next week.
