Deportivo La Coruna vs Malaga (By: Lovecat)

Thanks to the very bad shape of Cadiz, who has lost in the last seven games of the season in Spanish La Liga 2, Dep. La Coruna managed to reach the sixth place and qualify for the playoffs. With two very important victories in the last three rounds against Mallorca by 1:0 and Cordoba in the last round by 2:0, La Coruna reached their goal and will now host Malaga in the first out of the two games of the first stage of the playoffs. Malaga had only scored a few points less just below the second-placed Granada that received together with Osasuna a direct promotion and return to the first league. In conclusion, Malaga had a successful season but their ultimate goal was and is to return to the highest rank and first league, anything else would be considered as failure.

During this long season La Coruna scored 50 goals and received 32 of them and with 17 wins, 17 draw and only 8 defeats here is a great danger to Malaga in the first match. Malaga undefeated in the last 6 games and is currently in a row of 5 consecutive wins and in many of them Malaga scored more than 2 goals. Malaga is in really strong shape and they could shock the hosts with a couple of goals, would not surpirse me at all. I think La Coruna will try to win this first game and will probably play a more straight forward football. Given that they have not been able to win at Malaga since 2003, the best chance for La Coruna to qualify is that they have a good result at home today in this first leg. My call is that both teams will score and we will see 3 goals but Over 2,5 is a safer pick.
