Atlanta Dreams vs Las Vegas Aces (By: Miyagi)
Atlanta Dreams vs Las Vegas Aces
Las Vegas Aces (former San Antonio Stars) was introduced to the league last season with high expectations already. They received (of course) the first pick of the 2018 WNBA Draft (A’ja Wilson), while at the end of the season they also acquired via trade star Center Liz Cambage (2018 leading scorer, most improved player). Las Vegas was a win short of reaching the playoffs last season.
So far in 2019, Las Vegas was offered as favorites in all 4 games they gave (3 league +1 pre-season) and they won just once, in the only game that they allowed fewer than 79 points to their opponents.
Atlanta reached the semifinals in the playoffs last season (lost 3-2 to the Washington Mystics) and they continue with the very same starting lineup this season. They have not been great so far, with a 1-2 record while their main issue has been their offense, one of the worst in the league, as they average 72ppg so far.
Las Vegas had the third worst defensive record last season while they have allowed at least 107 points in 3 of their last 4 away games. Atlanta has defeated the Aces in all 3 meetings last season and they scored at least 87 points in each of those meetings. Vegas has improved over last season but so far they haven't proved that they can be trusted as favorites, especially not against a much more accomplished team like Atlanta. I can see this game as an excellent chance for Atlanta to get their offense going, while I also expect the Aces to do some good damage, so, at this small line, I have to go with the over.
