Junior vs FBC Melgar (By: Meese)
Little bit different option this time.
Junior made their first victory in this year's Libertadores, winning 1-0 against San Lorenzo. With this result, they are now alive to continue to Sudamericana. It was another bad quality match with no real action where Junior had the luck with their side.
To their most recent domestic league game, they lost 2:1 away to Cucuta, where they played with many substitutes. Their target is made as they finished in the positions that lead to the final phase of the league.
Moreover, they just changed coach with Suarez Luis Fernando giving his place to Comesana. Comesana is taking charge for the 9th time to Junior and he knows the team well.
FBC Melgar was unable to compete against Palmeira's quality, so the guests reached easily a 0-4 score. For Peru Apertura, they had a home draw (2:2) against Sport Huancayo. Anyway, they are really not interested a lot this season for their domestic league.
The fact for FBC Melgar is that all the pressure since the beginning of the season has been thrown to the international competitions, and they went very good so far, reaching this stage. A qualification to Sudamericana is now their target.
All in all, Junior faces a very important game with a new coach on board, Comesana, who was the one who led the team to conquer last year's Clausura and also reached Junior to the final of Sudamericana.
To the other side, FCB Melgar is weakened significantly away from home, and it will be hard for them to withstand the heat and the moisture of Barranquilla. They played there in 2015 and received a heavy 5:0 defeat by Junior.
I believe that Junior will be able to get the ticket for Sudamericana. They already played a final and one semi-final in the last few years. As a team, they have clearly more qualities from the Peruvians, and there is a change of atmosphere in their classes after the arrival of Comesana.
