Zalgiris vs Panathinaikos (By: Miyagi)
Zalgiris comes from back to back wins in domestic games but it's not certain that they got over their slump. They have lost their last 4 Euroleague games and they scored above 66 points just once in those 4 games while they average just about 78 points per game at home so far, which is the worst in the league.
Panathinaikos was not bad against Barcelona in their last game but once again they paid the price for failing to control the boards as Barcelona had more offensive rebounds (15) than Panathinaikos' defensive (12)! That was the last straw, so, they signed big, athletic C Payne to help in the front line and he will be available today. They also signed ex-NBAer Sean Kilpatrick who did some great things in his debut against Kymi as he finished the game with 20p (3-4 3P) and 3 assists in 23 minutes!
Panathinaikos will have Kilpatrick and Payne as well as one of their best defenders, Antetokunmpo(back from injury), available for this game.
Panathinaikos has played some great defense with Pitino, very energized, with constant pressure on the ball and things will get better the longer he works with the team, while they have also improved offensively, with constant movement, spacing, and much better efficiency from beyond the arc which was their main weakness. This is an extremely important game for both sides in the race for places 7-8 and a playoff ticket. Panathinaikos seems to get better game after game, while, on the other side, that is not the case for Zalgiris which seems to be in crisis. A few days ago I wouldn't even consider that but with Zalgiris' recent terrible display offensively and Panathinaikos with a proper Center (Payne) and a great scorer (Kilpatrick) there is a twist here and Panathinaikos might as well be the favorite in this game.
