Fenerbahce vs Zalgiris (By: Miyagi)
Fener's 12 games winning streak in Euroleague came to an end in their last game, against Khimki (84-78) and that was the second straight loss for Fener as they lost to Bavit (83-78) right before that game. The fact that failed to score above 72 points (in regular time) in any of their last two games is a bit concerning but there is nothing to indicate that they on a slump.
Unlike Fener, Zalgiris is in fact in bad shape with 4 loses in their last 5 games (3 of those in EL) and they come from a heavy loss to Efes at home (58-79). Zalgiris was really poor in that game and the final score is fair since Efes had more rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and fewer fouls and shot with better efficiency from both 2P and 3P shots! The absences of Kavaliauskas (in the defense) and Westermann (in the offense) were critically evident, for the first time, in that game.
Both teams played their last game less than 48 hours ago and fatigue could be an issue but it doesn't necessarily mean that it will have an impact scoring-wise, at least not from what we have seen so far in those doubleheaders in Euroleague. Those are two greatly coached teams with very efficient offenses: Fener ranks 1st in true shooting (54.73%), Zalgiris ranks 3rd (53.42%) in the league so far. Zalgiris is in fact in bad shape while, on the other side, Fener is eager to bounce back but don't expect them to destroy Zalgiris, even if they get that chance, Obradovic has a great relationship with Saras and (imho) he won't look to cause him more trouble with another embarrassing defeat, it's rather possible that he will lower the intensity at some point if he has a huge lead. Fener should score above 80 points but Zalgiris should also stay close and those are truly huge odds for just 152 points.
